Besides the TRD cold air intake system, does anyone know of any other CAI systems that have C.A.R.B. numbers?

Because any intake other than stock removes the carbon trap, you'll likely never find one.

Only the K&N 57-series CAIs are CARB exempt. 63-series are 49 state, once it receives CARB status, it will change to a 57.

Is the carbon trap removable from the TRD intake?

I've been selling K&N for 12 years now. This is information that has been directly quoted by several of their sales staff on multiple occasions.

Compare the following ... "63-series "2009 F150 5.4 vs "57-series" 2009 F150 5.4. CARB Exempt on the 57, yet not the 63. 63-series will go away as soon as inventory is depleted.

It is certainly possible for a product to never receive the exemption. A Great example is clearly the 4.0L Tacoma. Take a look at the Gen. 1 Tacomas though, all exempt and all 57-series.

Not sure how emissions tests work in Kalifornia. Does the inspection mechanic actually open your airbox to check for the carbon trap, or does he just look for CARB exemption sticker and move on?

    Bingo.

Gotta' have that magic EO plate on anything between the rear O2 sensor and hole in the airbox.
Wife just had her first test on her '04 Rav4 (went to that shop down at the end of the Sam's parking lot on Pipeline at Eucalyptus) and they ran the sniffer.

But her numbers were so low I asked if they started the engine. 120k and that thing runs CLEAN!

"2000ish and up" still have to go through a emissions test in California. its ether a ASM (Acceleration Simulation Mode) test or a TSI (Two Speed Idle Test) test.
