This was a very informative thread. Thanks to all the guys that put some educated conversation into this.

    My takeaway:

    1. I’m not doing a CMC because I don’t know and I don’t want to risk it.

    2. Beware of all the extra “overland” shit strapped to or in your truck. It will likely become a projectile and destroy whatever it hits in a wreck. Can you imagine a 200lb RTT in a head on collision. I even worry about a 2lb stainless water bottle flying around the cab with my kids in there.

    3. I’m buying my wife a suburban.

This is my 2013 versus a late 90s Pontiac Grand Prix that crossed the center line. My truck was a write-off. My air bags didn’t blow and I walked away. I was probably doing 35 MPH prior to seeing him overshoot the corner and I was hard on the brakes. Actual crash speed is unknown. It bent my frame, bent the upright, tore the LCA in half and pulled the axle out of the front diff. I don’t know where his front suspension went, basically from the center of his front bumper back was just...gone.

My ARB did in fact bend ever so slightly as you could see the raised part behind the light were it buckled. The other car did also hit my bedside (and blew open the gas door).

My truck was rebuilt according to a recent VIN check 4 years after the fact.

This has zero relevance to a cab mount chop as my frame was unaltered, but this is an ARB versus a collision.
