Hey guys! Wondering if there are any Cali fire guys/gals in here that can answer a question for me.

I have a friend back in Oregon lookin to apply in California for some work. He says there isn't a spot on the application to put his certificates on. I just told him to attach a copy of them and maybe a resume. Any tips?

I assume hes applying for Cal Fire? If thats the case, what he needs to do is fill out an application for as many units he wants to apply to. Seeing is how hes from oregon the units closes to him will most likely be Humbolt-Del Norte, lassen-moduc, siskiyou and shasta trinity. With each application, he'll need to submit copies of his certs. Applications are being accepted from Nov. 1 through Jan. 31. After he mails in his apps, to better his chances he will need to get a stack of resumes and start driving to as many fire stations as he can in the unit(s) he applied for and meet with as many station captains as he can. The sooner he can start meeting with the captains and handing out resumes, the better. He should do this before the application deadline. Also, he should continue after the deadline until he gets a letter stating he got an interview or was rejected. If he gets an interview(s), he needs to hit which ever unit(s) give him an interview hard with meeting captains and handing out resumes. Also, when he is meeting with station captains, he should dress nice and look professional.

yea city jobs suck ive had 3 so far in various parks departments and they have all been temp gigs, actually got let go from one for mowing the wrong area, other ones were just seasonal layoffs, no money to hire on permanent.

Tell your friend to look into the forest service too. They have a different mindset when it comes to firefighting, but its still a decent gig. Plus, he can stay in oregon if he wants and he can get sent all over the country to major fires.
