The numbers are probably just for the manufacturer for QC and stuff like that. I'm only guessing though

FWIW the springs were replaced on my '09 before I bought it last October¹ they have this code:

    --------------------------------------------
¹ - As much as I knock the "Certified Pre-Owned" thing (they certify it's used) I have to admit it has its benefits--Toyota will not let a dealer label it a such unless all recalls and TSBs (including "expired" items) have been applied. The official recalls you can get for free at any time, the TSBs are a different story...

I have a question? I have am not to car savy but know enough. I have a tacoma that has this recall, just like everyone else. My question is, I want to get some aftermarket leaf springs bcuz it seems like the factory replacement ones aren't that good. Will they reimburse that if I go ahead and purchase it and send them in a receipt? Also what if I get some aftermarket ones? Lastly is the recall inlcuding the rear shocks or is that seperate? Was thinking of upgrading the rear leaf and rear shock as well. Thank you for your patience with these questions

Just had mine done yesterday. I thought it was only the left rear, but both were done. I guess its because there is an even ride problem if they don't do both.

The recall was not to replace just broken spring packs, but rather to replace poorly designed spring packs--there were both poorly engineered, so they both got replaced.

I bought my '09 DCSB as Certified Pre-Owned from a Toyota dealer, they did the spring replacement (headlights and all recalls/TSBs) as part of the certification. I was told that is a fundamental part of the CPO process which made the $18k it cost last October not a bad deal...

The headlight issue was not a recall but rather a "warranty enhancement policy".

It seems that Toyota's engineers were not "bright enough" (pun intended) to know that the 27 watt DRL dissipated a considerable amount of heat (wrap your hand around a 25 W incandescent lamp or soldering iron if you doubt this), and that running one constantly in a plastic non-ventilated housing might not be a good idea--duh!.

When the housings began melting customers complained and they had to do something.

This is the initial notice; here is the extension notice--it expired on 11/30/2015 except for the 2011 MY which ran 'til 5 years after first date of service...

Sorry to ask a question that may have already been asked, but If I have an add a leaf kit in the rear will this be compatible with the new springs they will put on my truck? It's a 08' trd sport long bed with a leveling kit in the front and an add a leaf in the rear. I called Toyota today and they said that my truck either came with 2 springs in the rear or 3, and that the new springs after the recall come in a set of 3, I really don't want to spend money on another kit if this isn't an issue, previous owner of my truck said that the shop he had put the add a leaf kit on said that since they are new springs, the recall is nulled. Sorry if this doesn't make any sense, I just need answers!
    Thanks,
    -kidwidataco

I had the recall done on my 2005 which had an AAL. Toyota wouldn’t install the AAL with the new leaf springs so I installed them myself after the recall was performed. In my experience, the AAL I had in my original leaf springs worked with the new ones.

Did they mention why they wouldn't install the AAL with the recall? And is it that hard to install? I've never done any type of suspension work before

They didn’t install the AAL because it would have been a liability. They were only authorized to do the work that the recall called for and nothing aftermarket. I reinstalled the AAL shortly after because the back end was still sagging and bouncing off the bump stops. It’s not a difficult install and I think you can find a step by step instructional in the suspension section of the forum.

I bought my 2008 DCLB late 2016 and noticed it had a broken leaf that fall. I knew that there was a recall and I checked my VIN to see if it was open, and it said there were no open recalls...so I went ahead and I had a shop rebuild the spring pack with new leaves and a thicker steel that would act like an AAL.

Now in December 2017 I randomly checked online for recalls, and my truck was now had an open recall for this leaf spring campaign. I contacted Toyota and submitted all my paperwork for reimbursement for the repairs. Just got a reimbursement check today!

So, a 2011 Prerunner. I presume they won't replace them? The current leafs are just crap lol

jross; plug your VIN into the toyota recall site. AFAIK, prerunners have the same rear springs as the 4x4s and are subject to the same cracking problem.

Alright, looks like sadly mine only shows something for the tire monitoring system, which in fact does have issues on my girl but the stealerships refuse to replace it. haha
Guess I'm getting the Kanas city leafs.
