any of you guys do alot of heavy customization to black rifles? the s&w i bought does not have a dust cover or forward assist. i want to buy a complete upper receiver, use existing barrel, gas tubes, bolt assembly, etc..... looking for some one with the vise block and ar wrench to shorten the story up!

I can help you out with that, have all the tools and have done it a time or three. Before you buy your upper reciever, check the one you have now for a couple of things. I haven't messed with a Smith&Wesson AR yet, am not sure if it is standard Milspec. Quick and easy way to check that is to drop on one of my uppers and shoot it. Or you can get all technical and measure the crap out of it and compare measurements. One other thing to look at is if your barrel has the "M-4 feed ramps" or not. Example:

Is the S&W gas piston, or standard impingement? That would also throw a little wrinkle into the process. Also, since we would be stripping the upper down and rebuilding, you could upgrade to free-floating barrel very easily as well as changing out the birdcage to a more efficient barrel comp. Just a couple of things to think about.
