Ok, I've read some really good install threads. Install isn't the concern. Just want to pick the right model number, and that seems a bit confusing, even when I read on the vendors website.

My truck is a '13 LB. No camera, but I 'may' add one later.

    So here are my questions...........

    1) What is the model number of the manual unit that will adapt to use the trucks ignition/door key and allow a camera?

    2) What is the model number of the electric unit that has no key and allow a camera?

    3) What is the model number of the electric unit that is also keyed, and adapts to using the ignition/door key, and allows a camera?

Any tips on best price sources would be appreciated as well, outside of eBay and Amazon.

    TIA!

According to Pop & Locks' website they only warranty their product if purchased thru them. ( Toyota Dealer had them, so I don't know how that works ) So I' sure thats your only option, unless you just take a chance. I bought one on eBay and it failed. The plastic bar that pushes on the metal lever that opens the tailgate, broke. Well, no warranty and fixed it myself and it failed a month later and trashed it. Just bought the 8540, installing it shortly.

Well that stinks. And with every truck accessory shop out there (local and web both) having them available, it's just plain illogical. Not saying you are wrong, just that their policy is illogical.

What model did you have that broke?

Why do you think the 8540 will be more robust?

When the older one broke, I fabricated a metal sleeve to
go over the broke plastic tab. It held for another month. So I'm thinking about making that same sleeve on this new one and see if that modification will make it last. Along with this issue, I notice that the handle action is not
very smooth with the P&L setup like the stock handle. I think the binding feeling is what weekens the plastic assembly.

I'd have to agree with berk. the new pop and locks are worse than the old. There made to break. If I had to do it all over, I'd go with the pl8521 and oem tailgate handle. Than get the bracket from this thread PL8521 bracket. Than you would have a decent setup. Amazon has the best price on the pl8521. By the way, I didn't buy my pl8540 from pop&lock. They warranted it anyway. They must be getting alot of returns. The second one started to crack a little, so I jbwelded the sh*t out of it ahahahaha I use very low torque using a 1/4 inch ratchet and it still started to hairline crack. You'll be happy with the pl8521, once it's setup right. Electric lock is an awesome feature, that should of came stock. Maybe the new 2016 will have it.
