Curious why my cam gears have a slot on bottom versus URD instructions showing gears without the slot? Prepping for an install. Top picture is from URD.

Go back to page one... yours have been recut to 3° retard. The urd ones were cut that way by them. It's why they cost so much more.

Thanks! Got a great deal from @rmepilot for these plus all the gaskets, etc ($100). I did a search on URD web site to find a picture and couldn't find them. The link on page one did go to them though.

Use the slot that is marked, not the original slot.

John if or when you install- post a pic of them in place without the bolt on the end of the cam so that myself or another member here can confirm you have installed them correctly and give you piece of mind.

Gonna take my time for this one and get all the ducks in a row before doing the install. Just finished reading through the thread about the XTP Intake Manifold Spacer and posted a question for Gio (checked out his video on page 29) and he mentioned doing the cam gears before adding the spacer. I will pose same questions to you as I try to get as much feedback as I can although the cam gears are a definite mod. Will post picture before finishing up.

"Many said they saw an increase in MPG with the cam gear mod. Did you notice any improvement in your mpg before doing the spacer mod? Do you think that doing both of these mods together compliment each other or would doing both negate any aspects of the other? I also have the AFE cold air intake so would need to mod it for the spacer (glad OP addressed that issue) and a throttle body spacer. Lots of questionable aspects of the throttle body spacer and considering removing it. What would be your take on that?"

The grammar Nazi in me cant help but comment on "piece of mind." Get a lot of that from the wifey!!!!

I never ran a manifold spacer myself but from what I saw posted on TW- it and the cam gears complimented each other nicely.
My thoughts regarding the throttle body spacer... Try it with and without it. Stick with the option you feel works better. You already own it so you're not out anything but your time trying both ways.

Idk about that. TB spacer has never done anything helpful since the dawn of EFI. It’s not just a waste of money, it’s also a waste of time to install

Is there any potential for an unbalancing that would take place with the two slot design of the re-cut gears?

These gears will never spin fast enough that balancing will come into play. But I would have my money on the re-cut gear being more balanced than the original. The 2nd cut is almost directly opposite the original balancing the gear as a whole vs removing material on just one side.

Gio! Nice work with the video brother. I wish I had more time to build these still but bigger jobs keep me busy. I'm adding this video to page 1. I owe you a beer if you're ever this way.

Thank you! We had a good run during the covid era for sure lol. It's been a while since someone had me install them, so I figured I'd make a video on it.
Lol! Timing has always worried me, due to my old Honda days when I put a timing belt on one tooth off :annoyed:

Great video! Reaffirms that I'd be just fine doing these gears myself.

The part that I dislike is all the stuff I need to pull off so much crap from on top. Specifically the SAI system. Any tips and tricks for all that stuff?
