This exactly where the OEM tune in N/A trucks is overly advanced.

I got the ECU tsb reflash and while the 40mph knock is gone...upper rpm knock is present even with premium. Knock then ECU corrects.
Mileage is actually pretty good @ 21.
    Do these solve that issue?

“They will help?” That means it still happens.
I do appreciate the thought it took to make these, no doubt a PITA.

However yanking the valve covers off, intake, etc...when no one can say, “Yep no more knocking! Run 87 with no issues”. Doesn’t seem worth it.

The only way someone could give you a definite answer is if they had the same issue you do and installed the cam gears. I know if my truck was knocking, I would try any remedy. If you don't want to, then I guess you'll never know for sure.

The knock threshold is increased. Means that the knock potential has been lowered. Means it very well reduce or remove the knocking your engine has. Cannot be definitive. Your truck may also require a better tune over OEM. Maybe your fueling stations all have crap gas. Too many variables.

Everyone’s NA 4.0 has spark knock. Surely someone has a definitive answer.
For me it’s higher octane fuel.

    It's DLX son!
I run 87, and 85 last time I was in Utah, and I've never routinely been able to observe knock in my 2011 4.0. these gears did make my truck feel like it pulls better all across the rev range.

As people are pointing out, these gears will reduce the likelihood of knock under all conditions compared to stock timing.

I ran 87 with no issues before the gears too though. Lots of folks have run the 1gr-fe on 87 for lots of miles without issue that I'd attribute to pre-detonation.

I'd make sure you don't have something else causing your knock. Making sure your timing is correct would also require removing the valve covers.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
In the URD instructions they also state to check timing because they have found vehicles with timing set incorrectly from the factory. URD’s words not mine.

Incorrect. Everyone with a '12 or '13+ that didn't get the TSB, and then some after the TSB. Earlier models had that as a severe rarity.

We've had 8 years of trouble free miles (100k) on my wife's 2006DCSB with 194k on it total with no pinging on discount mid-grade fuel (88) that entire time. Truck runs strong, too, and I've never heard it ping, from sea level to ~12,000ft (my old 22RE's sounded like diesel motors in comparison).

I agree something else is the culprit here....

To advance the timing to the point of knock improves mileage.
The knock sensor works as designed but it is annoying before it cuts in. The low rpm knock is gone per TSB.
Now that it’s cold...knock in general is gone on 90 octane.
Truck is low mileage and with new plugs (no improvement).
    I get 20-21 consistently

If Santa didn't bring you gears and you want a set- I have them in stock. Also @zippsub9 has a factory set he's willing to part with. Good way to save a few extra $$.

Anybody have a use for this OE set? I don't know the exact mileage or if they're original. 175k on my odometer but the teeth look good and there's no abnormal wearing from when a chain has worn into a sprocket. $12 shipped.

I'm pretty sure I have very mild valve clatter as well on mine. I have chalked it all up to normal at this point. Stupid noisy Toyotas. Lol.

Having installed these, I noticed a pickup in positive feel from about 2200 rpm on(2500 rpm on 37" tires). Is that on par what everyone notices? I haven't mashed the skinny pedal yet but just wanted to confirm that I installed mine correctly lol. I've only been commuting so far but acceleration pull from 2500-3500 felt great!

That's about where mine picked up, from about 2000 on up. My truck cruises at 2500 rpms and I believe that is why I gained mpg, because less throttle to hold it's speed.
