Damn, thanks for the response, let me know if that changes, trying to find a tuner in Florida for my truck right now would’ve picked up cam gears if it applied to the 4.0 it’s a project I’m capable of digging into

On the newer dual vvti, I wouldn't think the cam gears would be needed. Not sure how many degrees the phazers move.

Honestly don’t mean to crap on your thread man. Theoretical physics work hand in hand with experimental physics for a reason. You’re making claims, and they sound great but the burden of proof also falls on you. I’d gladly at-least consider buying one if there was proof. I’m not saying you’re lying. Im just asking for the proof.

A majority of the guys in the 2nd gen supercharger thread all run the gears for a reason. They've been run for many years by some people.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/trd-magnuson-4-0-supercharger-tips-tricks-and-mods.518932/

Almost everyone in this thread has real world feedback, I know it's not dyno numbers but the gains are there and are not imaginary.

@JustDSM tunes ton of tacos, NA and SC'd using HPTuners. He sees the results in logs.

Quoting him from a different thread "Long tube headers with the stock y-pipe and cat-back are a great way to actually increase performance while not increasing sound.

Pair that with a tune and cam-gears and you'll have a truck that is worlds better performing than stock without the associated noise."

    Whole lotta stuff
First impressions after having cam gears installed by @greenEFSI . The engine definitely runs smoother, the exhaust note sounds the same to me. Power delivery is the major difference I feel. The petal feels significantly more linear and the 4.0L is much more eager to rev. Before the engine felt like it was annoyed whenever I put my foot down as if saying “ugh you want more power, are you sure?” Now with the cam gears installed, the engine climbs the revs with a lot less effort. “Say no more fam, more power going to the wheels now.” I zeroed my Average MPG on my ultra gauge so the jury is still out for the next 500 or so miles. Instant MPG tells me my highway MPG is around 16-17, up from 14-15. City still sucks, but I’m interested to see how it averages out in the coming weeks with 13.9 to beat.

I’ve had mine for a bit now, but threw a SC on like two weeks later... so I may be no help. I just noticed less lag in response in those two weeks. And exhaust in neutral or idle is smoother. That’s all I got.

Oh and get a SC if you can, my dumb ass waited 100k miles when I should have gotten it when I bought the truck.

Sending you a pm with details.
As for the nst pullies. I have a red nst alternator pulley kicking around. I don't remember if it's lipped or not but I'll check if you're interested.

I find it true of most mods though. I drive around the northeast and rarely see heavily modded Tacomas/Toyota's. Maybe every other month but it's becoming more so in the last few years. If I'm driving around Cali or Texas- I might see a couple a day.

hey guys. lot of great info here. Received my cam gears and planning to install them this week.

seems pretty simple to do, but the only this i dont 100% understand is where do you put the gasket meaker thing. its not on the valve cover at all? just on the timing chain cover and the head? in fron of the cam gears pretty much?

You don't have to take the timing chain cover off (its a little square ~3x3" cover on the front passenger side for those wondering)
The gasket maker goes in between the valve covers and where the heads/front cover meet. 4 locations total (2 per engine bank)
With the valve covers off- you can see where the 3 parts mate. There is a chance of a leak here so it is recommended to add ~1" strip of gasket maker here to prevent that.
