I’d say yes. If you want to do it, this would be the time. You’re doing most of the work getting to your gears.

Started last night, finished today. Not real difficult, but at 247k, I found the upper intake manifold was leaking where it meets the lower, driver side valve cover was leaking, and my plugs I did 20k ago were shot

It's only been a day, but I'll say that she feels smoother shifting. We'll see about the MPGs with 35s and 4.56 gears

Lemme know how that goes. I’m on 4.56 and 285s, but I’m thinking of 35s. Probably needs more gearing but I still like having highway performance.

I have ordered them, I'm on 4.56 gears with 35s. hoping to see a difference because I get about 10 mpg now.

Do you carry a lot of weight? With the 285s on 4.56, the best I’ve mustered is 14 city, 16 highway. About 14.7 combined.

Will do. I'm gonna burn a tank or two of fuel and crunch some numbers. Improvement or not regarding MPG, the truck just feels better. Like I did an already reliable engine a favor

Sheesh I'm on stock gears with 35's and about 1000lb over the rear axle!! Supercharger certainly helps ;) I average 12-13mpg currently... A re-gear will likely happen when I blow the factory ones up hehe

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yPo8E4v8Co

Looking forward to seeing the difference the cam gears make on mine. She's all tore down now to address an intake valve leak. Adding the cam gears and URD headers when I put it back together, excited to see what she does with a fresh tune...

usually got a few hundred pounds of stuff in the bed, but other than that not currently. Adding a Southern Style offroad slimline front bumper and a smitty built 10k lb winch.

Just curious, what would you charge to install if I were to drive over from Phx?

    Today is the day!

Quick question before I start - which direction do the exhaust cams rotate? I know the engine rotates clockwise (looking at the front). From pictures looking at the chain routing, it appears the cams also rotate clockwise. Is that correct?

    Thats correct.
2 rotations of crank for every rotation of the cam gears.
In order to get the smaller chains to line up "perfectly" it takes 18 revolutions of the cam gear per perfect line up. (That's 36 crank rotations)
