Cam gears for V6. Add power AND mpg

Update -

Valve cover came off without an issue. I just wiggled it forward.

I checked the timing of the engine - all is good.

I have an appointment in the morning, so I will resume work tomorrow afternoon. I need to change the gears, and clean the surface for the new valve cover gaskets.

While I'm at it, I will paint the valve covers.

 

I deleted my SIAS and had to buy a earlier passenger side one and these were sold as a pair. I had them powder coated. They were crusty from a junkyard and turned out pretty damn nice.

 

Dammit. Stop giving me ideas....

Why'd you need a different valve cover? Didn't want to use blocking plates?

 

To be completely honest that was two years ago and I can’t remember. I put headers on and removed everything. I remember I ran it temporarily with blocking plates and JB Weld putty stuffed in the tubes. I snapped a couple studs off down in there and had a hell of a time keeping them capped off. I did it right before n the beginning of Covid and I didn’t get my headers for a bit.

 

I wanna do the SAIS delete, that space would be perfect for on-board air compressor..... if only the house treasurer agreed with my spending

 

some blocking plates and a tune will get you there. I plan to do it.

 

do yall just not go past 2k rpm or what I cant figure out why mine gets such shitty mileage compared to others with similar setups.

 

Do you have bigger tires and an uncalibrated speedo? If so, you're getting better mileage than your odometer is reporting.

 

35s and 4.56.

 

I do not have the cam gears yet though.

 

Get on the highway with google maps GPS going and it'll give you a rough estimate of your actual speed. That difference is what's gonna effect mileage accuracy.

 

oh i know its a good bit over on the interstate. don't think anyone make a fix for that on second gens though.

 

You can have the speedo recalibrated as far as I know. How idk.

 

Maybe when I tune it?

 

Apparently (after a 2 minutes research) there are inline speedo calibrators you can install. The Tire size calculator on TW will show you the difference though.

 

yup! i did the math using the circumference difference and know the right speeds off that. kind of made a mental note of how fast I was actually going at what point

I ended up using a slee mount for an ARB twin and mounting my Up Down air system there.
