I also used a Hypertech. Mine is close, but still not on.

There is another company that makes the converter - can't remember the name, but it starts with "D". I've heard good things about them, but have no personal experience.

Not yet. I wasn't able to work on it yesterday.

I plan to get the gears swapped this morning, and prime/paint the valve covers. Once the paint is dry, reassembly.

I have this week off, so I am taking my time... Some might say procrastinating, others may say dilly-dallying. I am happy I have the ability to take my time and not rush. ;)

I painted the valve covers today, as well as swapped the gears.

Tonight, I bolted the VCs to the engine. Tomorrow morning, I will finish up.

For everyone that has regeared and installed cam gears, is there one that you would recommend first? Ideally I'll get to both, but seeing what is worth tackling first

I assume you have taller tires? Definitely axle gears first.

Cam gears are a hell of alot cheaper so knock them out first and enjoy the little pep in the step and little mpg gain that will help save up for gears.

New gears will be really appreciated by your transmission - gas mileage too.

Transmission yes, gas mileage, no. Engine spinning faster never equals better mileage. 4.56s Nitros here. Love em for the slight increase in power. Didn’t want to go any higher ratio for highway RPMs. Going 35s next year.

I vote cam gears first, diff gears next, HP tune last.

The speed of the engine as well as the load affects mileage. Tall tires + stock gears is a greater load on the engine, especially with a load (or going uphill).

You beat me to it. Load affects mileage more than RPM does. With that said, anyone who regears for better fuel mileage alone is a fool. Wrong reason to regear.

Your mileage literally may vary, but from my experience, the regear helped with power at expense of MPG. Never had an issue with engine load on the stock gears affecting mileage, it just took awhile.

These bad boys were going to be installed today, but got some bad work done by the local machine shop. So, my heads are off to another shop for a redo just to make sure that they are still serviceable..
    20220813_094121.jpg

I'm doing both head gaskets. #4 was leaking coolant and had a misfire that lasted no more than a few seconds at first start up.

Piston heads looking good for the motor having more than 300k. Took very little effort to remove the carbon that had accumulated.

just like what everyone has stated, noticeable difference. I feel the difference mostly when letting off the gas pedal and coasting..
