I'm looking for ideas to up my camp lighting game. Used about everything over the years, now considering 2-3 fiberglass poles joined together and planted in the ground center of camp ( or attached to roof rack, with some kind of 18650 battery powered LED light fitted to the top, shining down. Be nice for once not having lights in my eyes while sitting in camp.

    What do you use?

    Any recommendations?

I've been really pleased with the Luci lights - I put them on the dash during the day to recharge and string them up at night from the roof racks - often use paracord to another truck or tree/rock. Then I use one inside the truck as the light is nicer than the bright LEDs inside the truck camper shell for just chilling out. I don't have a pic with my current set up but they are not horribly expensive and give me enough light for what I need.

I'm still a fan of candle powered lanterns. UCO makes a really nice one.

I Like the black diamond lanterns. I have a few different sizes and run on AAA's. Mine are all dimmable and have a hook for hanging them up.

lanterns are where it is at. LED lights remained me of the ugly lights at the bars, and there is no way I need to see myself in those lights.

I know a lot of people are switching away from them but I'm still a fan of a mantle lantern, whether its white gas or propane. The sound brings me back to my childhood. I have a couple of led lights for camping but 99% of the time will always bring and light up my colman lantern

Same here. Attaching the mantles and lighting it up the first evening feels like a tradition for my camping trips. I always screw up lighting the first mantle though.

For many years, on hunting trips, my dad and I used Coleman propane powered lanterns. We had a 2 burner non-Coleman cook stove, and we had a split line that connected our main lantern and stove to our 5 gallon propane bottle at the same time, so we didn't need to worry about hauling a bunch of the small propane cylinders for the lantern. We hung the lantern from the tent ridge pole. We just used flashlights outside the tent.

Headlamp on water jug or bottle is a nifty and thrifty trick.

Also those inflatable solar powered lanterns are slick

    Not my actual photos...

I’ve got a Coleman white fuel lantern and stove, it hasn’t let me down yet. We’ve got an inflatable solar led for in the tent and everyone has headlights.

I've got two propane Coleman NorthStars, two old two-mantle white gas Colemans and an ancient single-mantle Coleman out of the Old Testament. I don't take any of them anymore in an effort to conserve time. We fish hard, from before dawn till dark and when I get back on the bank I am totally exhausted. All of us. We want to wolf something down, get a shower and pile into our hammocks as soon as possible to sleep as much as possible. 4am comes too quick. My headlamp suffices, but I'd like to pull a telescopic fiberglass pole out of the back of the truck, extend it and anchor it in the ground. A bright LED light on the top of it, up there 16-20 feet, shining down illuminating camp. Quick, easy, unfettered by the investment of time, extensive assembly, or fuel considerations. Anybody got any ideas that augment this approach?

I'd rather not think of all the $ spent :(
I miss it being dark....and warm at the same time. We have to black out the tent up here in summer and winter....well at 0 its not a lot of fun. LED Christmas lights off AA's worked well on out late fall trip. I do miss that Colman lanterns and messing up the mantle!

Milwaukee Lantern/floodlight for camp lighting, either set on top of my truck or away from common area to pull bugs. If trees are available, i'll hang it as an option.

Otherwise, I use a black diamond head lamp and a Milwaukee rechargeable flashlight. Also have truck bed lights under the rails for low ambient light.
