Just bought a 2017 TRD Offroad and looking to add a camper shell to it. Torn on which one to get. Think I have settled on the ARE but not sure if I want to go with the Z series, CX, or MX Series. Truck is a daily driver and will be used for camping out at the deer lease. Like the looks of the Z series but wondering if the MX series will give me a little more height for hauling gear up to the woods.

Welcome! When you say camping, do you mean sleeping out of the back?

Nah, just hauling gear. Sleep in a tent.

I'd go with the CX then, and make sure you get win doors. They're a life saver. Or a bed slide, so you're not crawling in there to get your gear.

I went with the CX. I honestly love it! Looks great and is very affordable. I paid 1800 installed with carpet interior, sliding fold down front window, sliding side windows and pet screens.

Just bought a ARE MX- be sure to get a ecoupon from the company website first- saved the $125 to install the headliner for free. Leer has online coupons too.

My MX is on order, but the CX looks a lot like the old Vista on my avitar photo of my 2002 Tacoma. Will post pics when the MX comes too :)

I have an ARE DCU with windoors, and they are worth buying new. (Even though I got mine used)

I went with a CX. Didn't need the extra height of the MX or the added expense of the Z. Don't forget the coupon.

Yeah- the CX is pretty sweet. One thing to consider though is how tall you are while sitting on the tailgate or inside the cab.

The CX's lower profile could also lead to head bumps in the cab, too.

I am being quoted around $2800 for mine. Normal sliding window in the front, sportsman win-doors on the sides, and light strip on the inside.

That is far too much. Shop around. I drove 70 miles up to Austin to get mine because it was the best price by almost $500

I bought. He was quoted. Granted mine doesn't have all the options because I felt there were many things I could add on my own, like LED lighting.

I skipped the $80 LEDs too-they are ugly. You've got to have Toyota mood lighting- like this:[IMG]
