I actually just got their runners bag, its awesome. Seems to be made very well and is comfortable.

My only regret is not waiting for the original kit bag to get back in stock. The extra space would have been nice.

Anyone have a solution for a kayak rack for a 16 OR DC SB? I have the racks from my Tundra but can seem to make them work for this truck...

There really is no point in looking any further than the Atmos. It's truly amazing.

    If it fits you!

The Atmos was not comfortable for me, much to my disappointment.

Exos by Osprey is even better.

Do you need such a large pack? I usually use about 35-50 L for 3-4 days depending on weather.

    I'm not, but @Cuffs is.

I'm a vendor for the NPS, that's as close as I get.

Oldest boy wants a sleeping bag. He's 11...and tiny. I've got my REI dividend and 20% coupon, so I'm thinking about picking something up for him. Is there any reason why I shouldn't get a short adult bag, rather than a kids bag?

I'm not talking about camping off the grid in the Yukon...this is like Scouts stuff, and likely never sub-freezing (not being an ass, just honest. He's a gamer and his biological dad is a gamer...). Looking at the REI Trail Pod, and Thermarest Trail Scout sleeping pad.

Any words of wisdom from y'all?

Actually...what's a more important first buy...tent or sleeping stuff. I've got plenty of the latter, but no tent. I have typically either slept outside, or in someone else's tent. I was just assuming he'd do the same.

REI bags are pretty good values.

I'm a fan of EN ratings and not so much a fan of manufacturer "ratings."

Is he camping in winter? Lowest expected temps?

Nothing wrong with an adult bag, just make sure he's not totally swimming in it. Fitment is pretty important.

An adult woman's bag may be a better fit than a man's bag, but may provide lots of entertainment at scout camp.

Get him the military sleep system patrol bag. Great down to about 35 degrees (true) and it's a very compressable bag that has the "cool" factor with the scouts since it's true military. Get one at surplus, or new on Amazon. Less than $50, tough as nails, and it's a mummy bag so he won't be swimming in it but will grow into it.

    Ha! Great idea.

It's called the MSS, @-dustin. Even the whole kit can be had for under/around $100.

I'll check into that. sounds perfect. younger son is all about military, so he'll probably end up with one, as well.

    MSS would be awesome then.

It's not compact or lightweight, but it's modular so he can only take what he needs, and it's definitely strong enough to handle the usual Scouts abuse.

Cam, take whatever gear you have with you to your store (REI or otherwise) and load it all in the new pack and see if it fits, and if so, with how much extra space.

You can add weight easy also, but if you're not sure how much space you really need there is no better way to do it IMO, than actually taking the stuff with you and loading some packs up.
