Can crappy Entune be updated?

Is there any way to update maps that come with the Entune navigation system? I have a '19 with Entune 2.0 (I think) and the maps are outdated. I had hoped to update through Entune app but it no longer works and is no longer supported by Toyota. The Toyota app does basically nothing as far as I can tell.

 

You can get the SD card from the dealer for a huge amount of money. The easier route is noting what the current revision is, then buy one rev back that folks are selling on eBay or whatever. Note that the SD data cannot be copied as it is locked to the serial number of the memory card.

Beyond all of that, about the only help the stock navi was good for was to route me Home when my phone had no signal.

 

I tried messing with the Entune stuff twice. I don’t understand why car manufacturers waste time and money on this type of stuff when Apple and Google already have it covered.

 

But, there is a caveat there. CarPlay and AndroidAuto sound like the perfect solution, but issues come up there with some implementations. A phone mount is always best, so far.

I hope that someday it becomes as seamless as it is on aftermarket head units.

 

Use an app on your phone like the rest of the planet. My Corvette had crap maps too and looked like something you would see in an 80's video game. I never used it either.

I rarely use the Entune Nav, but when I do it always gets me to my destination. Never felt the need to pay for upgraded maps. It is kind of cool to drive on a new road in my area and the Nav says I am driving through a field.

 

I have the dynamic nav that comes with the premium audio/advanced tech pkg and I've been quite happy with it. I realize after 3 years I'll have to pay for it but it's either that or pay for map updates.

I was just shredding a bunch of old business travel documents and my older ones had mapquest directions in the file. I'm old.

 

They should bring back free road maps at gas stations. Exxon maps were the best.

I covered the entire SE from Atlanta north, New Orleans west to Miami south.

Had binders and binders of those printouts in the trunk of my company car.

 

I almost never use the baked-in nav -- I have gone with a Tacoma-dedicated iPad. I needed the ability to import and export data, which was a deal-killer for using Entune.

 

I've been lead astray following the Tacoma maps 3 times. Once in Flagstaff Arizona where it keep routing me around the same 3 roundabouts over and over trying to get out of town. A second time in Amarillo Texas looking for a BBQ shack and sending me into some residential neighborhood on the wrong side of town, even though the address I put in was correct. And a third time looking for a hotel in Kansas City, I was routed to the opposite side of the Missouri river, with no bridge for several blocks. In all three cases, Google Maps saved me. When my free subscription is up, I won't be renewing. The only good thing it does, is routes me to my home. And I still wonder if it's actually to fastest route.
