Can I use my bed's power outlet to keep some bbq pulled pork warm for a 2-3 hour drive?

So I know next to nothing about electronics, aside from they don't like water.

My Tacoma's power switch is the 100w/400w AC115v version, I've read around and only really found the 120v threads but they didn't exactly answer my question.

If I have a crockpot that has a power sticker that says 240w 120v AC, can I use my beds power outlet to keep some bbq pulled pork warm for a 2-3 hour drive?

Really just wondering if I go by one electrical rating or both.

assuming it is fully heated going in, you're going to keep the KP on low, and the 240W is the max on hi; you should be OK
if you want to run the KP on hi you will need to do the 400W anytime mod (from factory it is 100W in motion, or 400W when in Park)

    W = V x A
240W/115V= 2.08A is the max amperage you KP pulls
100W/115V= 0.87A is the max available amperage when the truck is moving
400W/115V= 3.47A is the max amperage of the inverter and is only available when the truck is in Park or Neutral

Unless you do the 400watt any time mod (search it here), you have 100 watts while driving available and 400watts while in park available. The truck doesn't want you draining the battery or over taxing the alternator while you're driving down the road, so they limit it to 100w. In reality, you're gonna be fine.

Keep the crockpot on low and you'll be good.

Cool cool, thank you everyone for your info. I am definitely gonna be doing the 400w anytime mod this week, most likely tomorrow as it seems very easy.

I would determine the current draw of the crock pot on low with a multi-meter. Then use a little math to determine the Wattage. Compare to the LIMITS of the truck, 100W when running.

Done it a bunch on car camping trips or runs to the in-laws. Works every time on low.

Or for the technically challenged, you can wrap the pork in heavy foil, and just lay it in the engine compartment if the drive is not that far. If you have a long drive, you can cook a brisket meal! Enjoy your trip

Not for pork but have done this many times with tractors for a hot lunch when working on the in-laws farm... Works great as long as you know the right spot to avoid moving parts!

I wonder if one of these could be forced into the engine bay of a 2nd Gen?

Can confirm, a year ago I did the 400w anytime mod and then a couple days later drove 2 hours with the crock pot on keep warm setting with cooked pulled pork.

    Ah, modern conveniences.

Before this truck I would just wrap the unplugged crockpot in a beach towel and place that in a cooler. It was still plenty warm after a 2 hour drive.

Oh, and take it from my mistakes, you are going to want to secure the lid and have it inside secondary containment, with the larger container strapped down. Either/or just isnt good enough in the rare event you have to test your brakes.
