Lots of people own trucks just to use for truck things, if they ain't going to Lowes, Tractor Supply, or the flea market. They aren't driving the truck. Lots of people also own Tacomas, some of these people are the same people.

In no way would I or could recommend any form of tampering with any odometer..but seen it done by taking the fuse out of the fuse box for the cluster then the use of a gps for speed..but that was years ago with a non Toyota vehicle.. I did read somewhere about by passing the governor on a 3rd gen Tacoma by cutting a blue wire somewhere on the passenger side possibly outside the cab like underneath it, something about the wire and rubber body wire grommet that also turned the cluster off as a byproduct..Why anyone would want to go 130 plus mph in a stock Tacoma is just crazy and asking for trouble..it could also be totally a BS post..who knows..I have doubts that was the case with your recent purchase as often times a truck is a secondary vehicle not a daily commuter which also explains why someone got rid of it as it wasn't actually needed in hard financial times.. there's a post somewhere about bypassing the governor possibly here on TW if you want to double check if that wire was cut before and then repaired to help you sleep at night..

Not that the market works that way. I don't value used vehicles with low milage any higher than a higher milage vehicle. Although less miles is better, the seller has no way to prove to me that their vehicle milage is accurate.

So you don’t think that a used truck with 3000 miles in one year is in better condition than a used truck with 30,000 miles in one year?

"tampering with speedometer bad" as 90% of Tacoma people put bigger tires on without re calculating the speedo, in the end it really doesnt matter. I could beat the living dog piss out of a new truck for 3k miles and then sell it, but the next one I could also just drive it to lowes on sundays doing under the speed limit.

Depends entirely on the owner some people can and will screw up a car in less then 3k miles.

The only reason we don't recalculate is because its illegal to do so.....

But your speedo is off with bigger tires, so your car will actually have more miles than the speedo shows. For example I've had 35s on for 50k miles, speedo 11% off. Therfor my truck technically has around 55k on it.

So you only started worrying months after purchase??
Low mileage is good, unless there’s other indications, go enjoy your life worry free.

There is some logic in your statement, but dealerships, online sellers like Carvana, and private sellers all seem to value cars with lower mileage higher when attempting to sell them.

It is clearly a selling point, especially with the current market being as it is today, and I wouldn’t be surprised if some people wanted to take advantage of it.

And with a relatively new car or truck, chances are a lower mileage vehicle will be in better shape than a high mileage one.

Id say there isn't much difference between a 3k car and a 30k car. Those are both pretty much new in my opinion, if maintenance has been done on the 30k one. once at like 60k that's getting into the well used category.

I bought my 2021 (built August 2021 originally sold September 2021) in mid May. It had 3900 miles on it. Was purchased in Florida and sold at auction for whatever reason to end up in Texas. I was a bit skeptical but the truck is absolutely pristine and I went over it with a figurative fine tooth comb and magnifying glass. The salesman laughed at how closely I looked it over. It did have brand new KO2 tires, TRD wheels, and a few random changes like lasfit bulbs. No molestation of any sort though.

no sales records on mine either, my best guess is an old man who didn’t want/need it anymore, or a younger kid that bought it and realized he couldn’t afford it.

Anyways, I wouldn’t worry about it. Mine hasn’t given me one inkling of trouble in the 3400 I’ve put on it. If it drives good and doesn’t make weird noises, roll with it and don’t worry.

I've had my truck since May of 2021 and it only just turned over 6500 miles. When you work remotely and don't have a daily commute it lowers the miles significantly. So lower miles in and of themselves is no reason for suspicion.
