Can anyone tell me if I could swap out side cap windows for Windoors? If I bought a cap that had sliders, can those be removed and replaced with Windoors?

It depends on which windows you started with. In other words, will the windoors fit in the opening. I have not found an aftermarket source for them though and ARE wants a bloody fortune for a set after the fact.

ETA- I haven't found the vented windoors; I've found the ones that just lift up but I need screened windows that I can open.

It is a Leer 100XR. That is a great price for it even if the color isn't the same as your truck. I have the same cap and paid $2200 for it new though I opted for roof rails and keyless entry. Can't help you out with info on whether or not you can still add windoors, but I would be interested in the same info as well.

Thanks @yeos. I'm picking it up this weekend. The owner says it has holes in the roof where the previous owner had a Thule rack system mounted, but they are now plugged with silicone. I'd like to add a roof rack to the cap at some point anyways, so this isn't an issue for me. I'm going to check with some places regarding getting it painted. Haven't made up my mind whether to paint match it, or do a durable plasti-dip type of material.

    YouTube to the rescue!

If the Leer 100XR has Windoors as an option, and I believe they do, then technically I should be able to purchase them and simply swap them out (if the hole pattern is the same).

    An unrelated question...

I'm going to pick up this Leer cap this weekend. Is there any pre-wiring I need to do before this weekend? From what I read, I will need to disconnect the third brake light before installing the cap to prevent the brake light from reflecting off the cap and into the cab. I'm curious if there is any wires I need to run beforehand.

It depends, are you mounting the shell yourself? It should have a lead with a disconnect plug that taps into the brake light (usually left side) and runs up to the third brake light on the shell. If it's missing you can buy them cheap or make one, it's just two wires with a two prong plug so you can disconnect it and take the shell off while leaving the wire in place. You probably ought to carry a couple of wire taps with you in case the seller doesn't have any.

The third brake light on my cab still works and it's not really noticeable at night. I never bothered to take the bulb out in case I want to take the shell off (it's been on there since 2006 FWIW). If you want to power a light you will need to run some sort of power supply. Simplest is off of the trailer wiring harness if you have the seven prong setup.

Sorry to hear about the silicon in the holes; that crap is hard as hell to get completely off so that you can put a proper sealant in it if it ever leaks or you decide to mount a roof rack/tracks.

We will be mounting this in a Home Depot parking lot. The seller showed me the connecting wires. Since they are looking at replacing the cap with a tonneau cover, I could ask them for the taillight connecting wires. The Leer also has a LED internal light which must be powered somehow. I'm mostly concerned with connecting the cap brake light, at least until I'm able to get the cap painted.

    a bunch of new/used parts....and some skids.
shouldnt be too hard of a hook up. I believe mine is tapped into the driver's side tail light brake light wire. Its just spliced on in there and there is a pigtail with connectors that hangs out in the bed of my truck. When the cap is on there are two other connectors that come down from the roof of the cap. I just plug the two together and boom! light.

not much glare at all from my 3rd brake light off the back of the shell.

I've looked into windoors for my cap and called the local topper company.... @Bajatacoma is right though! they quoted me for two windoors and then quoted me for a new cap with windoors..... it was almost the same price!

I've inquired with a couple of dealers and the manufacturer of my topper (Raider Vagabond Elite) about buying windoors. The response I've gotten is no, they have to be installed from factory, the cutout is different. Not sure what to believe, I've found the customer support to be terrible and was also told I couldn't add Thule/Yakama tracks for mounting a roof rack after the fact. Seams to me I got those rails on no problem and I've been hauling a RTT on the canopy rack without issue. I still need to do more digging on the windoors to see if it's possible.

My local A.R.E. dealer quoted them as $45 each when buying a cap. The only thing I can think of is that the Windoor company has some sort of contract with the cap companies to build the window cost into the cap cost for consumers. I've never really heard of this type of pricing structure though. I can totally understand if the cutout us indeed different. Which brings me to another point, why not standardize window sizes per cap size? That would really make the aftermarket options explode.

That's cheap for windoor option. Leer wanted $150+ each as an option for my new cap.

I just got a quote back from my ARE dealer, and was told $150 per side for the windoors on an overland. Guess I'll get a few more quotes then.

I wish that was what I'd been quoted a couple of years ago. I want to say they told me something ridiculous like $350/each. At $150/each I'd have jumped on it if they are the windoors with the screened sliders not just the plain windoors.
