    ok. so i went to a military museum and saw this. can someone tell me why this jeep has 3 shifters in it? i know one is for changing gears, and one for the 4X4 but whats the small 3rd one? i included the info sheet of the vehicle.

    Looks like this is a CJ3B and (I just learned) apparently they came with an Optional Power Take Off transfer case...which would allow you to run powered equipment off them (farm stuff, mower decks, snowblowers, etc)

    So one Trans shifter, one 4x4 shifter, and one PTO shifter.

    Edit: Too slow...

    I just looked it up and it appears they had the Dana 18 Transfer case in them which looks like they had a dual shifter for high and low up until about 68 and then they swapped out to a single shifter :confused:

    ah HA!!! YES! Looking at the pic closeer, the stick goes into the same hole, indicative of a separate Hi/low and 4/2 shifting. The PTO shifter on my M-37 is a bit further away from the trans and tranny shifters.

    The hubs are interesting too. To lock the hubs, I had to pry out two levers with a flat head screwdriver and spin them 180 degrees, then snap them back in. "Thang could climb a tree in 4L.":D

    My M-37 had those silly hubs! I swapped them out for some Warn ones. :)
