My dog wants to go everywhere with me. But being Summer I can't leave her in the truck in 90 degree heat, even with the windows down, for more than 5 minutes.

I want to close the windows and crank the A/C down and leave it running while I run into the store. Is it possible if I take the fob say 30 feet away and try to lock it so it doesn't think I want to get in?

Do you have push button? I’m sure you can manually lock the doors and not use fob and it will be fine. I’m old school though and have a turn key.

Also, I recommend turning the AC up and not down. Oh you meant temp :anonymous:

Everytime I have tried it on my 17 it hasn't worked... If you press the lock on the fob it unlocks immediately and same if you lock it from the inside and close the door

I use remote start in this scenario.

Shut down, exit vehicle and lock the doors. Then immediately remote start.

Yes. I do it sometimes when it's really cold Here are the steps.
    1. Start truck
    2. Close door
    3. Use physical key in the physical lock to lock the door.
You cannot lock it with the fob or with the door open. You must use the actual key, from the outside, with the door closed.

I was in my driveway a couple weeks ago and somehow locked my key fob in my truck while the truck was on. I had the spare laying around however it wouldnt unlock using the fob, only unlocked using the key and the key hole.

    How I did it:

Unlocked the truck using the fob, put the truck in accessory mode, rolled down the window, closed the door with the fob still in the truck, press the lock button next to the window switch, rolled up the drivers side window. You can keep the fob in the truck, and take the actual key out. When you come back to the truck, manually unlock your truck using the physical key and the key hole.

Pretty sure it's illegal in lots of states to leave your dog in the vehicle and people are allowed to free/save them. Breaking window etc.

I'm not sure of the legality of it but Teslas have a mode exactly for this. It even says across the screen in big letters the AC/heat is on and at what temp.

Think it needs to be in certain states and certain extreme conditions with heat and cold.

Friend of mine and his wife had an early 90s Suburban. She carpooled to work 35 miles away. One day my friend gets a call at work from his wife asking if it would have hurt the truck to have left it on while locked. He said no. Then she explained that she left it on when she locked it in the morning and it was still running when she returned to the drop-off location that afternoon. He nearly died laughing.

One thing to remember. If you leave it idling with ac on it might over heat in some situations.

That feature of not being able to lock the truck was even on my 01 tundra.

How big is the dog? No one bothered my truck with a Great Dane inside. I did however have someone jump on me about the dog being inside a nice cool truck until I pointed out he was more comfortable then I was.
