I purchased a 2016 Toyota Tacoma from a dealer in Idaho. It was made in Canada and has some wierd features. One of them is a port just under the driver's side headlight that the dealer thought might be for a built in block heater. I have tried several cords from US parts dealers but non of them fit the port. It has three prongs (see attached) and an odd almost pentagonal shape. All the cords I have tried from US dealers have a round shape. I have contacted a few
Canadian parts dealers but have had no feedback as of yet. I thought maybe someone here would have an idea as to where I could get a cord to fit this plug.20200204_122705.jpg 20200204_122638.jpg

Thanks guys. Baerskin. I saw that there was a recall on toyota block heaters in 2017. Have you had any problems with yours? I'd hate to plug it in and have it catch on fire or something.

My 2016 is into its 4th winter. My block heater still works fine even in -40 temps. I'm not aware of any recalls for it, at least on the 2016s.

Ontario Taco here, I have the same setup from the dealer, but my connection looks different. It’s a great setup, though. Comes unplugged easy if you forget about it and drive off, too. Lol. The little springy door cover on it isn’t strong enough to close tightly, so it ices up sometimes... gotta look into that. First time I’ve seen another setup like this on this forum.

Edit: BTW, Trucks not made in Canada, but was made for Canadian market.

An interesting tidbit is some provinces require the block heater (IE it’s not an option, but a requirement), while others don’t. Here in B.C. it is not required, so we don’t get it unless we pay for it to be dealer installed.

Pick a Canadian city. Find a dealer website and get a cord. They are available in a couple of lengths.
