Sorry...rookie mistake...I originally posted this in new members forum.

    Hello Everyone,

    2008 Tacoma Double Cab 4x4
    4.0 6 Cylinder
    TRD Package
    6 speed
    Speedway Blue

I must admit I don't have my truck yet. I am in the process of negotiation. I have placed a deposit for the order but the deal is not finalized. Lots of fun with the Canadian markets these days. Everyone in Canada is comparing prices with the USA... aprox. $9000 in the difference for the same truck  (toyota.ca vs toyota.com). I know what I want, and I believe this is the best truck on the market.

Regardless of the price differences across the border I don't believe toyota has any plans to change the price or give any worth while incentives in Canada.

I would love to have a little leverage though. Does anyone have an idea on the list price for the above mentioned truck in Canada? The msrp including tax is $44357.40.

I would also like to hear any advice on how to squeeze the best deal for myself and to hear the thoughts of other Tacoma owners who have recently gone through purchasing in Canada.

Thanks I am looking forward to being an active member in the forum in the future.

    Dave

I should make some wise crack about the canadian dollar being worth so little compared to the US dollar, but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't swing that way any more...

I would never pay 45000 for a Tacoma.

So are the numbers right on the web showing the $9000 difference between CAN and US? You guys paying $30 give or take a couple g's for a TRD Double Cab 6. before TAX?

If so no wonder so many Canadians are cross border shopping for vehicles.

I bought an 07 in silver with the same specs you are after. The dealers here in Canada (BC) don't want to move to much on there price which is ridiculous! I bought mine through a private deal out of Washington. $26,200 USD with 8000 miles. I had all my paper in order, so it was only 45 minutes to go through both the US and Canadian crossings and neither even came out to look at the truck! It's worth the savings. Pure maddness in what they are charging for the same truck in Canada. Good Luck!

Yeah that's just wrong, for that kind of money in the lower 48 we could get a new land cruiser, have you tried just stealing it ?

Yeah. The price differences between the US market and Canadian market are out of control. I ended up buying a used 2005 TRD Sport in Seattle for $25000 USD, same truck in Canada used goes for around $33,000. Our Canadian Dollar is now worth the same as the US dollar so it's a good idea to look in the US!! The only mod you will have to make to make it meet Canadian safety standards is the Daytime running lights!

Call a US dealer and buy it down there. My neighbour bought a Tundra in Arizona and had it sent by train up the the border where he picked it up (Cost him $800 to ship it).

For $45K, it better start with a B and end with a W.

Is the US warranty honoured in Canada? I've heard different stories!

What would be the difference ? A big ole' honking heater ? ice fishing gear containment system ? tire chains ? lowered cab hight for igloo parking ? heat sensors for identifying polar bears and other northern mammals ? it ain't room for the wallet, we heard what you guys pay for trucks up there, just shameful ! :canada::poking:

    Hi from Edmonton Alberta.

I now regret that I didn't check out the options to buy in the US. I payed $37K for a 2007 non-trd Tacoma double cab. It sounds as though I could have saved about $8K by getting it out of the states. The big question ... why the price difference? Are the Canadian dealers stuffing money into their pockets? What's the deal?

Stop doing that ! if the American dealers hear of this nonsense, they'll crank our prices up ! :spy:

In order to discourage cross border transactions, dealers in Canada have united and refuse to honour US warranties. This is what I'm told.

    boser65,
I'm also from Edmonton, Alberta. I was almost going to make the mistake of buying in Canada.

I have bought a 2008 double cab, TRD Sport Tacoma out of the states and Toyota covers the warranty in Canada. I saved ~$14000 over the Canadian price. Even if Toyota didn't cover warranty, with extra $14000 savings I could pay out of my pocket to get it fixed.

thanks for everyone who replied. It really does sound like us Canadians are getting the Sh*tty end of the stick right now. I really appreciate the input. I love the truck so one way or another there will be one parked in my garage.

    Thanks again everyone.

Well, socialism sucks. That's about all I can say without getting into a big political thing.

wow i just paid i think 35000 out the door for a 2008 double cab trd sport auto. Theres some law now that stop people from buying brand new trucks and shipping them up, believe me, i tried. I could have gotten it for 26,000 outta washington. I heard though that the Canadian dealers are having to pay full US retail on the trucks and then mark them up here in canada to make a profit.
