I've tested the update and I love it. Like others have said, its like a new truck. Biggest difference I've noticed is going about 50-60kms/hr in traffic and I need to speed up to 70-ish. No dramatic gear dropping, no lurching forward, just one gear drop...and smooth power to the higher speed. I've had it on the highway as well and it seems to have much better intuition on what gear to be in, holding 5th when accelerating instead of 4th to 6th, back to 4th etc. Anyways, highly recommend, I had almost given up!

Been 3 weeks since I've had this update done and I have to say, I'm quite pleased
I rarely push the ECT button and one time a vehicle slowed down in front of me to almost a stop in dry single lane road, with ECT off and I gunned it to pass the slug and was surprised that the truck did a double tire chirp for the first time

Just got it done today. I think it helped bringing in paperwork. Will have to report back with my findings. Tech comments were : Reprogrammed ECM- .4....
Not sure if he did the T-TCI-5133 or ? I did notice quick shifts off the line and ran smooth.

Weathertech floor mats, CaliRaisedLED 30" bumper light bar, CaliRaisedLED Ditch Lights - yet to be installed, CaliRaisedLED 52" Light Bar - not sure if I'm going to install...
So I went onto the Toyota site at some point in Dec and noticed there was an update for my truck. Looks like there were two but it said I could just download the latest and install it... not sure if this is the T-TCI-5133... I got the instructions and basically it told me to copy the file onto a USB stick, insert it into the usb slot on my truck and then go through the stereo to install it. Is this just an update on the head unit or is it possible this is an update to the ECU? I know nothing about this but the instructions seem quite easy... Anyone ever done this? I don't really want to do the update if there is any risk I'm going to kill my truck as this is my daily driver but I also want to keep it as up to date as possible. Any advice much appreciated!

    Chad.

Not ECU. Biggest risk you run IMHO is you won't be able to listen to Drake while you drive it to the dealership to rectify

And welcome to TW (I'm not an ambassador, just an a-hole)

I tried to get this done yesterday, and the local dealer refused saying it was for automatics only. Anyone have any luck getting this done in Calgary?

I have an auto, not entirely sure if the update applies to manuals?

I got mine done at Henninger. They did the update no questions asked. Said I was experiencing gear hunting on highway driving through the mountains, that was it.

Highly recommended to get the software update. Way less gear hunting at moderate speeds 60-90km/hr. The original programming drove me nuts right from day one.

Just a gen2 TRD shift knob so far. Anxiously awaiting ovTune 1.05 with handheld tuner!
MT Driver wanting to pursue the update.
Any other gear jammers have advice on how to approach maybe reluctant dealers who will insist it's for AT's only? Could use a game plan before going through the headache of a "sorry, but".

Unless I am missing something (and I did have the reprogramming done), the TSB is specific to the automatic transmission and how it shifts. Unless there is other software upgraded at the same time I don't see how this TSB could be done on a manual transmission. It says right on the TSB it is for vehicles with the AC60 transmission.

I take it you have an auto tranny. Yeah?

Ya, you're missing the ECU version of the ecu. 04Bxxx is an MT version, and it's clearly reflected in the TSB. I went from 04B1000 to 04B1300

Yes - the stock auto-transmission on my 2017 drove me bonkers from day 1. There was some stuff in the manual that talks about how the truck will learn your driving habits or something like that. The dealership also said to give it some time but the way it would hunt for gears between 60-90km/hr was insane and on the highway if there was any sniff of a headwind or uphill, it would upshift and the RPMs would jump. Annoying as hell. I'm carrying all the same stuff as in my 2002 and the 2002 could hold gears no problem. It was night and day after getting the software update and it can actually hold a gear way better and highway driving is much smoother and slightly better on fuel.

I had no luck getting it done on a MT at Country Hills Toyota in Calgary. They said they'd do it if I paid but there would be no warranty.

No warranty on the work? Or your engine warranty would be void?

They weren't very clear, but I'm sure they would push back if something did happen. I did ask them to run techstream, and the software did show mine as the latest. This was in July I think, maybe it's still not in the Canadian system?
