Any fellow canucks out there that bought there Taco's in the US in order to save some big $$$$$$????

If so, what has been your experience when trying to repair issues under warranty at canadian dealers?

When I bought my Taco, I was reassured by the US dealership and Toyota that there would be no problem.

I thought about it, but was told that they won't sell a new vehicle that is to be registered in Canada. So far I haven't found what I'm looking for in any of their demo vehicles. For me it's not just about the money, but also the fact that I'd prefer a regular cab, which isn't available in Canada.

I heard that toyota is one of the only companies that doesn't care about that. I did hear pretty much the same thing as that about acura vehicles.

i'd think a seller could care less about where it's registered so long as they made a sale.

I looked into it and was told by Dealers in ME,NH and Vermont that they would not sell a vehicle being registered outside the US......If I found someone in the States to make the initial purchase, and re-sell it to me immediately that was fine as long as it was originally titled in the US.They explained that Toyota would withold inventory the following year if Dealers were selling outside....Toyota protecting the Canadian market is what it is.As a result I leased a truck here and one year later the same truck a model year newer is $3000 cheaper.

What a kick in the stones...:(

Here is an excerpt from an email sent to me from Toyota of Seattle.

"As you may have heard already, both American Honda Motor Co. and Toyota
Motor Sales, U.S.A., place significant restrictions on their dealers here
in the United States regarding the sale of NEW Vehicles. Simply put, Honda
and/or Toyota dealers are not permitted to sell New Hondas or Toyotas for
use outside of the United States. We must observe this restriction without
exception. (All Honda & Toyota Dealers in the U.S. must comply with these
restrictions or they risk significant penalties - up to and including the
    loss of their franchise.)

If you have a residence in the United States and are planning to register
and use the vehicle here, great! We will need to speak with you soon so we
can confirm the details of your request.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for a vehicle that can be exported
into Canada, please confirm this fact for us so that we can begin to help
you in selecting one that is eligible for export. (Pre-Owned, Demos, and
    Dealer-Fleet vehicles are all eligible.)"

I bought my o6 taco from a guy in calgary who had brought it in from the U.S. He had all his service work done at the toyota dealership in calgary without any problems but when i brought mine to the dealership here in saskatchewan to get a tsp done they were being very rude and hard to deal with because my truck was from the U.S. But they ended up doing it anyway, so be prepared to deal with some pricks but if it still has warranty they are forced to treat it as if it were from canada. I say its worth the money savings.

Agreed 100% it's worth the savings....It's finding someone to sell you one.I did hear tonight that the US dealers are getting cute by selling units with 50 miles as used.I wonder if they would find people to buy them and then immediately sell them to thier Canadian customers.

I'd love to know of a dealer in Washington who does that. Heck Washington has cheap gas compared to BC, I'd be willing to take it for a 50 mile "test drive".

I looked at purchasing a Tacoma in upper New York state last fall and was told they couldn't sell me a new vehicle if it was to be registered in Canada. The vehicle had to be "titled" (whatever that means) but not registered in the US.

Seems like Toyota is attempting to protect their dealers in Canada, even though the Canadian consumer is getting hosed.

I think it applies to new sales only. I looked at buying a US truck but for the model I bought used here, the diff in $$$ was not worth the hassle ($2K +/-).
