I ordered a 2016 with the factory bed extender but I am debating canceling the bed extender.

Does anyone know if it is installed at the factory or at the dealer? (if factory I will probably keep it, but if at the dealer then I would rather just buy one separately and install myself).

I've done a mod or two
It is a dealer part, and can probably be had for less money later down the road.

Mike, there really is no "install". It snaps on and snaps off depending upon whether you want to use it that day. Takes about 15 seconds to remove and just 10 seconds to put back. So, you are not paying for any dealer labor with the cost of the bed extender. The total cost is for the unit itself. Dealer invoice on the extender is in the low 200's. If you can get it for that price, then just do it. They are selling on EBAY for $200. So, based upon that it just makes more sense to buy from the dealer. If the dealer is not willing to let it go at their cost, then buy elsewhere.

Bottom line, just buy from the dealer at invoice

    One more thing Mike....
If it is coming with your truck and you don't want it, then let me know now and I will pay you $225 for it. Will send you the funds this weekend to cover it.

Supposedly it's the exact same extender and part number as the gen 2, which is in fact the exact same as the after market AMP unit. I thought there was some drilling involved with the install, but I'm really not sure.

Does anyone have any comment or experience with the "folding" variety? That way you can neatly fold it out of place, and leave it in the bed when not using. Similar to,

I believe there is some assembly required... for the side of the truck that the extender snaps into...

There is drilling...you have to pull the tail lights out and drill 3 holes on each D pillar to accommodate the brackets. Comes with a template to get the holes lined up.

thanks guys, I asked them to cancel. looks like it is the newer style with an almost triangle shape. I also didn't want the dealer to drill, I don't mind and would rather install myself than the dealer.

Does the ready ramp flip inside the bed like the other extenders?

Can someone confirm this? I own the original OEM extender currently on my '07, just curious if it would transfer to 2016+ trucks. For whatever reason I thought bed dimensions were slightly different on 3rd gen?

yes, it will fit. As you know, the OEM extender can be adjusted for width too.

I got the DCSB with bed extender. I won't say I don't think it is worth having, but honestly I don't think I've used it more than once in 8 months. It sits in my back yard against the side of the house. Definitely glad I didn't get the Weiner-mobile (aka DCLB)

I kept mine from my Gen 2 and put it on my Gen 3, no problems at all. Amp research even has the templates for drilling on their site.
