Can't decide on a new set of tires...

    Background Info
    So I've been batting around options in my head for a while and I've basically narrowed it down to two tires. Michelin LTX M/S2's or BFG All Terrains. I haven't done any off-roading since I got the truck last month (Has BFG All Terrains on currently) and I'm not sure if I ever will do any... other than dirt/gravel roads for camping or to reach MTB trails (which the LTX is supposedly okay at). To me I just can't see myself wheeling in something something so new... I've always had the impression that you off-road in something older that you wouldn't care about the paint or body on. That's just me being weird though, as clearly a LOT of people do that on here with their 2nd Gens. Also my truck is my DD so it mostly sees ashpalt.

    My Tire Size:
    265/70/ R16 on Stock Alloys.

    Prices:
    1) A set of LTX's for $800 installed and balanced + $70 mail in rebate (+ taxes)
    2) A set of BFG All Terrain's for ~$700-$800 installed and balanced through a buddy's friend (+taxes). I have to call him again and get the definitive quote on Tuesday.

    My Consensus
    So on the one hand, LTX's are a highly praised all season that would handle rain and snow well and that could possibly improve my milage a little. And on the other, All Terrains because if I decided to get off the ashpalt regularely they would be the ticket and because they simply accomodate the overall truck "look and feel." OR maybe hold off on All Terrains until suspension lift + 17" wheels designated for offroading...? I don't know lol.

    I have the BFG All Terrains right now and I like them, but I am disappointed in how much mpgs I lost going to them. When it is time to replace them, I will be going with the LTX's.

    I'm diggin' the Kuhmo Road Venture and if it's as quiet on the street as I think it is, it may be my next tire.. [​IMG] A little ridiculous, perhaps.

    Reading between the lines, I think you've answered your own question. The Michelins will probably be your best bet for the type of conditions you drive your truck.

    Go with the all terrains... they look nice as well.. it seems like they are both fine for your use, prices are similar... so now the looks.. AT tires look good on trucks.. just go with AT BFGs...

    I had a set of General Grabber AT2's on my last truck. Awesome aggressive look (just what I wanted) but I lost MPG and the road noise was really bad. You have to ask yourself if you're going to go off road a lot. If not, stick with the all season, highway tire. There are a lot of high rated tires out there that will add to you MPG and keep your rubber on the ground in any kind of weather.

    My BFG ATs didn't last long in my DD... decided to try the LTX M+S 2, and what impressed me most was the improvement in street traction on wet and snowy surfaces over the BFGs.

    I have a tough winter drive, long and steep, plenty of deep snow, ice and mud. No trouble with these.

    The LTXs have been smooth and quiet for 40,000 so far. Wear looks great. They don't look aggressive, but they work great for my needs. 10% of my mileage is on rough dirt roads and steep forest duff when pulling loads of fire wood
    out of the mountains. No problems with that at all.

    I thought about Grabbers but decided I could afford something better. Also mudders would be pretty rough for DDing. ;)

    I replaced the stock Dunlops and have been very happy with the ride and handling.

    If you want to improve the "look" without dropping mileage, try going with 265/75-16 LTX-MS2s. I dropped a tenth of a mpg and they fill the wheel wells nicely.

    Just go Michelin. Everything else is competing for "almost as good"
