Can't get my 285's balanced. Should I try beads or a different shop?

I've heard of that being done on 40"+ tires, never would I ever shave tread for any reason.

I thought I was the only one lol. I'm running 16 method double standards with 285/75/16 ko2's and I had a shake at the exact same speed. All service done by discount. Just recently had my tires rotated and now it's gone

I'd find a shop that will road force balance them; and I'd also rip all the weights off before going (in case you get some lazy tech that just keeps throwing more and more weight on them).

I've never had good luck with beads... and each time it became a huge pita. That was also with beadlocks, which most all tire shops around me wouldn't touch (hence trying beads). Which meant breaking them all down to put beads in, realizing it was a fail, breaking them down to try putting more beads in, still a fail, then breaking them down again to vacuum them all out. Found a shop that would spin them (Non road force), still a fail, tried beads again (repeat pattern above)... In the end I found a dealership that would road force them, and that did the trick.

I did a 2,700 mile road trip last month on load E KO2's and it was a very smooth and comfy ride.

well, as much as it pains me recommend 4 wheel parts, they got my 265/75 R16 mud terrains balanced to perfection after firestone and one other shop kept failing to do so...I don't know anything about balancing tires, so I've just been assuming they got it right because they probably have more experience with truck/offroad tires.

If nothing else, the road force machine will tell you if your wheels are out of round.

At a road force shop right now.. they are having problems too. He asked where I got the tires from since he thought they were the culprit not the wheels. I guess if this doesn't work out I'll remount on my FJ wheels and give that a shot

Update: road force did the job. They still said a bit more weight was needed than usual and there's still some slight vibes at higher speeds.. but it's much, much better.

The cost however was pretty absurd. $170... I can't help but think they were price gouging based upon the vehicle

Probably spoke too soon.. pretty annoying vibes on my highway drive yesterday. Checked the wheels out and they still have a lot of weight:

Not sure if I want to retry a 4th time at another road force shop or just try mounting the ko2's on my old fj wheels and try selling the methods at a loss

It might be the tires. I had a similar issue with my 285s where two of them took 13oz. Discount tire road forced balanced them with no luck said both weren't out of round and might have been a bad mold. They ordered me two new tires at no charge and those only took 3 oz.

Are these new tires? If not, Cupping can cause balance problems that can't be fixed.

Bought mine from discount but online since there's not one locally. Might drive to one and see if I could do the same. Only problem is they sat in my garage for a few weeks so hopefully they're still under warranty.

They're new but now under about 3,000 miles since I've gone on 2 roadtrips since they were mounted.

That shouldn't be a problem, mine sat for a week or 2. Call someone from the online store and explain what happened nicely. Before i could finish my sentence they told me thats am unacceptable amount of weight and told me to take them to the nearest Discount tire where they would road force balance them for free. If that didnt fix it they would replace the tires that did not balance quickly. Tney even called my local store ahead of time so they were expecting me.

Have you had your suspension components checked? Might not be the tires, or the tires MIGHT be aggravating a problem with your front suspension, I.E. Tie rod ends, bushings, Etc...
    Just a thought...

There are shops that refuse to sell KO2s just because there are issues with some of the production runs. I doubt the Methods are the issue, I would rip all the weights off myself and take it all to a discount tire, try to make friends with a tech and get him to understand your pain in the ass balancing these wheels and tire.

Drove an hour to a Discount Tire. Gonna spend my Saturday afternoon sitting here.. hopefully they can pinpoint a problem tire and replace it if so.
