    Just straightening thing out, relax.
    AND
Not all impact driver's are air. Very good electrical Impact Drivers are available. They make more sense if you do not own a compressor.

I don't mean to be repetitive, but a 3/4" Air or Electric Impact Driver, would have this apart like butter, without risking cracking anything. You likely would not even need a holdback!

Like Chris, I thought you were talking about the lower pulley bolt which is always a first class mofo' But in any case the bolt you refer to would respond favorably to an impact either air or electric will do, its the quick "snap" of the impact that'll loosen things up, not the 6ft length of pipe you'll need for the pulley bolt ,lol:D

& hopefully the "snap" will be the bolt coming loose & not the bolt shearing off....:eek::eek:

just make sure of the direction of the impact before using it, I know this is a "no brainer" but it is something that gets overlooked, I know I've done it(snapped bolts in half) as others have too I'm sure .. (its just the pain of admitting it that hurts)

@isthatahemi: I had a Ryobi 18v Ratchet i wanted to try it with during that time but i couldnt due to space issues. it would mean a bigger job since i would have to remove the fan and the radiator to access it.

@cab4you26: Sorry i didnt get to those pics on time for you. i saw in another post you already done it. but still noisy you said.

@tacopyro: Yes I did, although I never pulled the head on mine to do that.

I assume you meant an Impact, as a ratchet will not help. An 18 volt Impact will not help either as they only put out around 60 ft/lbs. A good 1/2" Air Impact will put out 250ish ft/lbs, and a 3/4" one will do around 500 - 600 ft/ lbs. That is the one you need. Don't waste you time clearing room for an Impact. if you have anything less than a 3/4". Consider renting one, it will remove the bolt in seconds.

a 3/4in. to pull that break that bolt? no way. that's a little much if you ask me

I use a 1/2in. impact with over 600 lb/ft breaking torque almost every day.

That must be an expensive 1/2" Impact to be belting out 600 ft/lbs! Or a not expensive one that had some wild numbers on the box.....
Remember, you will only get the peak torque through a short, large diameter air line, and no extentions or wobbles.

LoL yeah SnapOn. Snap on has a 3/8in. impact that has like 500 lb/ft break away torque... Those aren't mine though I don't have money for the expensive stuff! I have a $50 Kobalt 3/8 that gets it done just fine. :D

Bringing this old thread in case someone else runs into this issue. I used my air impact wrench on the bolt and it did nothing, so I was done for the night so I just sprayed some PB Blaster on the cam bolts (also did this to the exhaust bolts the night prior to me working on the truck). Next day it came off pretty easy with the impact wrench, so this stuff worked pretty good.

a bit late to the party but bolts like this need to be broken loose by shock so an impact gun or a box end wrench hit briskly with a hammer makes short quick work to break them loose, even when you cant hold them solidly in position.

lawn mowers and motorcycle engines are famous for these bolts that seam welded on and wont break loose
