My 2nd gen don't have a diff lock :(. I actually suggested this method to in a thread because my '09 had the locker and I knew that 4LO signal turned off the ABS/VSC though I traded the truck in before I could get to it.

Landphil's method works for non locker trucks , with or without VSC

You need to read the entire thread that OZ posted. You trick the computer into thinking that the diff lock (which we don't have) is turned on.

I have some highlights and diagrams as well as easier access to the wires uesd in this mod here on my build thread. If you look at the diagram you can see the fuse that could blow if you hook it up wrong like I ended up doing out in the woods at Hurricane Creek.

Yeah, my ABS in the snow sucked. What I did to remedy the problem is stay out deeper areas of snow and if I had to go through stuff like that I'd throw it into L or 2 to promote the most engine braking possible.

I'll eventually get around to doing Landphils method of ABS disable, I need to purchase a switch that looks good and doesn't require modifying the interior first though.

I have the switch right above the foot rest. Can't even see it unless you are really looking for it and easily engaged by my left foot.

Yes. It was something I had sitting in the garage but my disable feature is based on cutting signal to a wheel sensor and not this other method which I will be switching to this weekend.

I've found that my truck pushes when I apply the brake, so I'll carefully pop my shifter into neutral and have noticed that I stop a lot more quickly. I've had times where I was in gear with the ol' foot on the brake talking to someone and they said "You're doing a burnout...." rears were on ice but kept spinning slowly with the brake applied.

Interesting way of tackling the problem, whatever works though right? There's always more then one way to skin a cat :D

Thank you! I'll go look at it right now!

I also got the Diff Lock cover for it. So I know that it "enables the diff lock" and no one knows that it's actually to kill the ABS.

I had 2 different 05's and they both would prematurely activate the ABS and once it was on the trucks just would not stop. On the first truck I swapped the tires to General Grabber At2's and that made a huge improvement. On the second one I had rugged trails (which did suck) and I bypassed the ABS by putting a switch inline with the ABS fuse. Oddly enough with the ABS bypassed even with the sucky tires I could stop it no problem even on the snowiest, slipperiest of roads. My 96 doesn't even have ABS and it stops great in the snow even on el cheapo pep boys tires courtesy of the P/O. Hopefully in a few months I'll be buying another 05-08 double cab and putting a switch in for the ABS is going to be one of the first things I do to it.

Don't those switches bulge out a little? I have seen one in pictures before and it seemed like it did.

I have had a 1985, a 1988 and now a 2012 Tacoma and they all sucked ass in snow without weight in the back. I put three 60# bags of sand in the back of the new Taco and it has been out in the worst of the snow and ice this past week without any problems stopping or going uphill with the OEM tires.

They do stick out, about 1/2", not a big deal though. Also they are not an exact fit, just Dremel out the hole a little.
