Toyota does one map upgrade a year, they say "typically in the fall", so not sure what month that would be. Mine was pretty much up-to-date (purchased in November) with some new highway additions finished in the summer around here.

I'd think you would have had the latest update, but if they are saying they have a new one, makes no sense that yours would have had an old set loaded.

Hey Capt, what was the outcome from Toyota on the Nav upgrade? Did they give you any info on when the last update was done?

    Yeah they did.

"Bring it in next fall and we'll upgrade the maps. They upgrade the maps annually."

    Seriously?

    Ed,

Can you do me a favor and pop out the usb map card and let us know what the model number is printed on the card? I picked up my truck in October last year and it came with 86271-OE183 - which was the current map card at that time. Perhaps a newer card is available now. Toyota typically adds either a suffix to the card like OE183A or bumps the number like OE184.

BTW, which dealer did this for free? The ones I have talked to want upwards of $200 to upgrade the map card. I ran into this trying up upgrade my 2014 Highlander. I ended up getting one off Ebay for $30 instead, although I can take the card out of the truck and use it in my Highlander also for more current maps.

    Thx

I just went out and checked, and the card is 86271-OE183. So, it's pretty much a case of getting an old map right from the start.

If I could update my own maps I'd bypass the dealership. We haven't discussed price yet because they don't have a more recent map set than the one I have. My argument with them will be that if it's a 3 year bumper-to-bumper warranty, that should include the maps.

One would also expect the maps on a new car/truck to be accurate for that year and not missing streets that are up to 4 years old.

Google had my street on its maps before they finished paving it. Just sayin'.

Thanks. I found this Toyota document online. It clearly states that the OE183 is their 2015 update. I can't find one for 2016 and no reference to an OE184 yet. However, you're right that the software Toyota licenses for their GPS units is well behind most others in terms of road updates. I drove to Katy from Georgetown and took a toll road 99 from 290 to I-10 and the maps showed us driving across cow pastures.

Pish posh. Don't let a few bad apples ruin the bunch.

There's a super-Mexicanized first gen that I'm stalking on the southeast side of town. The dude seriously DGAF and has lifted and blinged the Billy Shit out of it, and it probably isn't to the tastes of 75% of the people on here. I don't care - I love that he put his personality into the truck and wears it like a badge. He's a level-100 Chrome Wizard of the first order.

We need more people like that.

The steel brackets take the stress off the bed rails, and the lips prevent the cover from moving forward or backward. Is there any movement in your cover just clipped to the rails?

I can say mine doesn't budge but is still easy to take off and put back on.

Cool, just added them now, thanks!

Also any recommendations on a bed mat and part number, looking at this PT580-35050-SB don't know if 2016 has same as previous beds.

I might make a bed divider for tools and groceries, did you get the Toyota divider!

So I now have an open case with Toyota about my transmission fluid level. It's been hesitant and doesn't like going from reverse to first (always at a complete stop), and is slow changing gears from 4th to 6th. We'll see how low on Friday.

    CAPTAIN'S LOG: Uh, early May.

So the tranny was about 1/2 quart low. Turns out they not only topped it off but did some magic computer shit. She shifts quicker, holds higher gears longer, and doesn't have that long pause going in and out of reverse (except right when I start her up - I don't think that's going away).

Our puppy Lucy is getting a sister this week. Meet (dog to be named later, currently "Kiki" but we're not 100% yet):
    upload_2016-5-3_7-53-6.jpg

Poor girl is about 2, covered in mats and tangles, unsprayed, and sitting in the animal shelter needing a new home. We went and did a "meet and greet" last night, and thankfully Lucy didn't try to kill her. "Kiki" is sweet as can be, friendly, and very approachable (whereas Lucy will rip your throat out from fear). Lucy calmed down and tried to engage Kiki in play, and that's the positive behavior we were looking for.

The intent was to not only provide a positive role model for Lucy (who does really well when my brother's dogs are over) but also provide her companionship when she's alone. This also allows us to secure another evening lap warmer, and that can't suck, right?

I think I'm going to have to modify my patio stairs (it's a long way down from the back door to the yard) because Kiki is smaller than Lucy, and Lucy has a hard time sometimes navigating all the steps. Not sure if mini half-steps or just a ramp would be a better idea...
