    What's up guys?

I put an amp and sub in my 17 Tacoma but there just isn't enough power to supply 3500 rms.. So, my first idea was to get a high output alternator. The problem with that is.. well, they're impossible to find for newer models.

So, I'm wondering if I got a deep cycle xs power or DC power battery, would that supply the power I need? And would my stock alternator even be able to charge it?

Or, if anyone knows where to get an alternator! I'd rather go down that route.

    Thanks a bunch

While your engine is running the power isn't getting drawn from the battery. Alternator is what you want.

Also I'm not positive on this - but a capacitor may help you as well. I've never installed one, so I'm not 100% sure you could get to 3500rms with a capacitor.

That's what like 300A or so? You need both - maybe multiple batteries. Can you even find a 300A alternator for these trucks? What amp is this?

And yeah, definitely needs big 3

Unless they changed alternator dimensions and mounting on the newer tacomas the mechman drop ins should work. Most 300a alternators have a high turn on so you lose output at idle and most high-er (more than stock) alternators that output at idle have slow recovery at idle.

My dual alt setup is externally regulated because I couldn't get more than 13.8 charging at idle even with one ho alt. The stock tacoma (2010 xrunner) charging system would only see 14 volts on a cold start. After warmup it would drop to 13.8 and stay there. Three stock alternators (brand new) did the same. Did the first external regulated ho alt and I hold 14.5 at idle.

If you can do a reliable ho alt go that way first with the big 3 and make sure your battery is up to the task. You want your battery to be a reserve more than a load and this means making sure it is charged so the alternator doesn't have to do it.

Mechman doesn't have anything for the new Canbus vehicles , I allready contacted them, nothing for the 2016+ Taco. Does anyone make a bracket to run a second alt with external regulator?

Well, the other thing I have experienced with canbus vehicles and ho alts is you would have to use an external regulator anyway.

If anyone is inclined to pm me pics of the alternator wiring plug and mounting bolt locations of the 2016+ I can dig up some info.

I made a bracket to mount my second alternator...no one makes one that I could find.

Would love to know what amp you are running.
Back in my shop, I loved when people brought me $100 amps that said “5,000rms power!!!” And it maxes out at like 400w
