Long time lurker in this thread.

I did the top of the world highway and Dempster up to the Arctic Circle with my wife back in 2012. A stock truck will easily do the same trip we did. We tented it at various campgrounds as we didn't have our RTT then. A very worthwhile trip and I hope to do it again (with the RTT). Thought I'd throw my two cents in given the discussion for the past page.

    Dempster turnaround point for us:

The most spent on a trip like this is the planning and gas for the trip, If you have camping gear, there will be stores to restock supplies along the way. Basically, go prepared for an adventure and have a back up plan for changes and any typical issues that might happen on any long camping trip.

the ferry from washington to homer for just one truck and two people (minus lodging on the 6 day ferry trip) is $3300. wow.

$3300, that is crazy! I don't think you'll be taking the ferry. But it sounds cool.

Can you ship the truck in separately and fly for a lower price?

ive thought about that... even to ship my bike from new york to california is $700 and takes about that much time. so, a truck im sure would still be about the same price as the ferry. ill look into shipping and flying costs also

Anybody attended a Overland Expo event?

I'm thinking about going this Spring. Probably just buy day passes for Fri and Sat to get a feel for it.

    Worth the time?

So it would be cheaper prob to go to Haines, AK instead of Homer. Thats how I did it. Then drove part of the Alcan through Canada and Alaska. This is my chronicling

i saw that! very inspiring i might add. maybe thats a better idea, going up to haines and then driving around to homer. ideally, homer is where id like to start going north.. id like to touch the arctic circle and really take my time going around the state. luckily.. im pretty close friends with a former ak native whos family are nutjob brush pilots up there, so i might even have a personal guide!
