Lose a little weight on the ass end (since I added 150 lbs with my bed rack and anything I decide to hang from it) and leave the "tacoma" bottom portion carbon while painting above that body color.

The stock hood weighs 41lbs.. 40.8 if you dont like to round up.. just weighed it on my trusty bathroom scale.

As for durability, if it's made as well and fits as well as my RK Sport hood it should hold up well. I just got done driving like a Jack ass through the desert for days and no cracks in my fiberglass.

Drove like this for at least an hour..

    CF hood...on a tacoma?????

Prerunner or long travel where you want to be light sure....

but for most Tacomas??? You're better off taking the couple hundred spent trying to lose 20-30lbs up the hood and buy a gym pass to lose 20-30lbs off your body. No only will you save money, but you'll be healthier and can actually go offroading/hiking without getting out of breath.

This is the equivalent of a 200lb dude buying lightweight clutch levers for his sport bike to get faster times on the track....

edit: heck, just do 25 burpees and have some black coffee as soon as you wake up in the morning. The dump you'll take soon after will be about the same amount of weight you'd save with this hood.

the whole point of this thread is, "What do you think about carbon fiber hoods" per the OP.

I'm here to state what I think of carbon fiber hoods. Click on my username to have a window pop up and click on "ignore" if you feel strongly against me posting what I think about carbon fiber hoods in a thread asking me what I think about carbon fiber hoods.

i've been a part of many forums. Never have I seen such an opinionated group that has zero flexibility for something that someone else may want on their truck. The image of cowboys that use their truck as phallic symbols couldn't be so true. Sport bars, lowering kits, 20" rims, decals....Jesus....It never stops.

It's the same few guys that demand of you what they are unwilling to do with their trucks. Only oem can get anything right I guess. Chill the hell out. The hood looks great, sporty, and is light, as well us unique. If you personally hate it that much, then bypass the topic. I think the OP wanted opinions from those open minded enough to consider it. The hood looks awesome. Period. There could be quality and longevity downsides that I'd be curious about. What we don't care about is why you hate it so much. If Toyota came out with the Carbon Package Edition Tacoma, you'd be first in line and wouldn't give a flying F as to what color the drill dust was. Zombie. Let Toyota eek out the big offering of Apple Car Play in 2020, A full four years after Audi and i'll watch you bow to the almighty.

Do you actually think those suits in Tokyo actually have their thumb on the pulse of what's best for us as a whole? They can't even deliver to dealers the correct colors so one can have the ability to choose. It's always only about what your dealer happens to have in stock. Miss me with the "Only Toyota knows for sure what's best for us" fallacy.

    this and that...
i wonder if you could just buy the scoop. the contrast would be pretty nice. still have the rigidity of the oem hood plus that sweet offset of the carbon fiber!

    No, its one piece.

Knowing how Seibon and VIS build there hoods, I feel pretty confident that this will please the "it needs a functional scoop" crowd. Finally they can get their engine bay dirty, you know, for more horse powers. :D
