    I sent a follow up e-mail to ask if the hood was 100% carbon fiber, etc., and they replied:

    "The top portion of the hood is made with carbon fiber. The skeleton underneath is make with fiberglass. I don’t believe there is an exact percentage because it highly depends on how large the structure underneath is on the OEM piece."

    Thank you,

    If someone already beat me to it. Please send us some pics of the fitment and, if you dare, run it without hood pin for awhile and give us some feedback. lol! Cause that's what I'm planning on doing. If you take the time to seat the hood properly and the latch lock in place correctly. You shouldn't have it poped up. If it fails, it would be because of a rip in the layer bonding between the fiber and the latch piece.

    When I call Seibon directly, I put my name down on the waiting list that will be 8 to 10 weeks backorder. And that was June 19th. Apparently nobody from Seibon call me. SOB!!!

    @Siblue Thank you for the info. Seibon rep did tell me that their distributor will have it for much cheaper. They didn't tell me which. I'll give showstoppersoffroad a call.

    Ok. Ordered mine from Showstoppers USA. Based on the invoice It's $1090 cost + $100 shipping. They are located in Glendale, CA.
    Although, my Taco is in the hospital for running over a fallen ladder on the highway. Won't get it back till early September.

    As soon as I get everything together, I will make a YouTube video on it.

    A big thanks to @Siblue again. Actually, I don't know whether to thank you or hate you for suggesting it. lol! Now, I'm out $1190. :rofl:
    But I figured, sooner or later, I want a hood scoop anyway. hehe.

    Do you plan to use hood pins?

    Nope. Showstoppers said "Hood Pin Required" noted on Seibon website is strictly for CYA purposes. As other member stated also.

    Showstoppers USA rep said I should be fine going 80-100mph in a Tacoma. Afterall they are rated for going 120mph+ with just the latch and no hood pin.

    Again, I'm not suggesting anything. To each their own. But for me, I'm not pinning it. But if it fails on me, you guys will be the first to know ASAP.

    Note: The latch is made of metal.

    I wonder after all these years, does Seibon still fade to that greenish color?

    JDM Taco?! Rad!!! :taco::thumbsup:

    I might go this route if I can't find anyone to part with their super white sport hood. My faux pro build is not yet complete without a hood scoop!

    Group buy anyone?

    Green? I've seen all types of CF discolor, but never green. Not sure if anything has changed, but doubt it, in the past though the hoods would oxidize without care and turn yellow. Of course the super spendy shit that wasnt coated would fade terribly. It makes no difference whether you spend a little or a lot with CF, they need additional care.

    I polished and waxed mine maybe 1-2x a year and it was still like new after 4 years.

    Thanks for the info. Any idea how much lighter this is compared to a fiberglass hood?

    Negligible, this hood is CF over layed on a FG frame. It'll save weight over stock, but will weigh about the same as any other FG hood. CF is nice because it doesnt have to be painted like FG or an OEM hood does, but at this price it costs as much as it would to buy a OEM hood and paint it. Wish it was closer to the 6-800 range.

    Seems like a solution to a problem that didn't exist. Looks good though.

    Ok. Here it is. Arrived at my house earlier today. No installation yet. My car is still in the hospital, will be back early September. Until then, this hood will be my table top in the house for a week or so. lol! jk.

    Note:
    * One piece construction. Meaning the scoop itself is not a separate piece like OEM hood.
    * Hood scoop can be functional or blocked off depend on your preference. The covered piece is bolted on. Can be remove.
    * The latch is made of steel bonded together between the layer. (pretty scary to think that over time, that resin can weaken and delamination occurs. lol! maybe.) No hood pin and then poof. lol! Still going with no hoodpin. :D
    * Looks just like OEM TRD Pro or Sport hood.
    * Weight about 26 lbs.
    * Minor clear coat imperfection.

    I will do a video overview of the installation and reviews of the fitment as soon as I get my truck back from the bodyshop. As for running it without hoodpins, I will keep a constant update with you guys on that.

    If you can wait just a few months more, Black Friday/Cyber Monday will certianly bring the price of this hood sub $1000 easily (depending on vendors). That way, I can be the tester for you guys in the mean time and when everything settles, you can buy it at a reasonable price. Win win.

    Did you have them install it then? I tried it myself...it seemed easy enough but I am a bit nervous about it. Also running without hoodpins, will report back if that changes (I'm leaning toward yes since I have a teenage driver).
