College buddy of mine is currently deployed and I want to send him a care package, his wife has told me the pertinent info and that he doesn’t “need” anything in particular, give me some ideas for what to send, so far he’s getting a card, photo, and cookies, he said no on lube but would accept a dildo.

#1 Drink mix for water, like Crystal light, Cool-aid, Mio's (my favorite, fruit-punch) etc. #2 Popcorn. #3 Tostitos and some nacho cheese, or Pringles, and things that are not going to melt at 120°+ heat. Cookies are good, but they are often dried out after 1~2 weeks transit time. The USPS give you a slight break on the shipping cost of their large flat-rate boxes for APO addresses, take one to the grocery store with you and buy till you can fill it. If you get the nacho cheese pack it tight to prevent damage.

If I were deployed I would want Tobacco (lots of it. If he doesn’t dip/smoke he can barter) and energy drinks. If he drinks sugar free ones though, you can’t send those because the artificial sweeteners will explode in the heat.

Not all "deployments" are created equal, but you're safe with the chow and card. I recommend the photo doesn't include the wife's new boyfriend-j/k sort of.

Thanks! I sent her (his wife) the recommendations and she green lit them (except maybe the tobacco)

Yep, photo doesn’t have her or Jody so we’re good.

What I find fucked up is she says I’m the first person to ask her how he’s doing and if we can send something, I know he didn’t hang out with a big crowd but he got tight with a couple other guys in college (one was a vet who was using his GI bill after being out a few years) and I figured they would at least ask about him, he’s been in country for roughly a month now.

Big ones are King suspension, SSO bumper w/winch, Pelfreybuilt sliders.
Pocket hand and foot warmers were always nice. We worked in a very cold air conditioned space all day. Don't know if his job puts him in the same position though. A box of his favorite cereal, or beef jerky is a common gift.

He enjoyed what we sent him (snacks only, he and his wife swore up and down he didn’t want anything else) and should be coming home in the next few months.

Does Kuwait really count as a deployment now?

Yep, it’s similar to an Air Force deployment.

lol depends when you went... army used to do 4-6 month rotations and live out of GP mediums. Lived in a bermed up Battalion TF cabal. None of that running water or AC stuff you see now a days. Still didn’t get, nor should’ve gotten, a combat patch for that though.

Now all of Kuwait is the land of the big PX.
