Been searching and couldnt find exactly what I wanted so here goes:

Im looking to find a wire (if it exists) from the 3 position cargo light switch to trigger a relay. My goal is to trip a relay for some bed lights, but I only want them on when I put the 3 position switch (off, door open, and on) into the on position. I do not want the lights to come on, unless I have the switch in the on position. From what I've found people typically use the green wire / pin 14 as per oem manual, but that would trigger them when the door opens or you go into reverse.

    Thanks in advance.

    Update / Solution:

I had @kmorgan3 build me a harness that taps the 3 position switch to run the blue and purple wire out.
You can use the blue or the purple to trigger a ground actuated relay to operate whatever you want.
Purple is the center selection and illuminates when the doors open.
Blue relies on selecting cargo light "on" all the way to the right.

Can u mount your own switch and not tie into Factory wiring? Seems easier

I could, but would be my last resort. My way would eliminate an additional switch.

But it also maintains the continuity of the OEM insulation.

so wire pin 85 of relay to +12V, then pin 86 to white/black stripe wire off of back of 3 position switch?

Yes. That's if pin #10 (labeled CGLP in diagram) on the connector is black/white. I didn't see where it was listed black/white. This will put 12v back into Pin 23 of the main body ECU. I can't see that would be a problem, but a diode just to be safe should probably be used since the Tacoma wiring is very finicky.

No. That would be always ON, since you'd be bypassing the switch...

Only if he connects to pin #7 as in the diagram you posted, not if he connects to pin #10.

But white/black is pin #7, not #10 as suggested.

I concur with the need for an added diode.

No cutting into the vehicle harness...Remove the pin on connector to cargo switch (red) place in new connector. Assemble new wire from new connector to switch connector and another to the new relay coil.
