Those are really nice but expensive to buy after you have bought the truck.

Yep, about 250 I think. Just depends on how bad you want stuff to stay put.

I did something similar to this, but instead of d-rings I used a bungee cord attached at one side, woven through the bottom of the netting a few times, and then hooked to the opposite side bed tie-down. The bungee takes the stress of any heavy loads a bit better than the netting alone. I leave the setup in there most of the time, and only remove it when hauling the bikes or something else long. In this configuration it no only holds grocery bags well, but I have also had 4 full 5-gallon gerry cans back there without issues.

I got a cargo net at Harbor freight years ago and I still use it. Best $9 I've spent.

That looks like the rear net for our Forester. It is laying around also. I couldn't get it to stretch far enough, but the 'biner idea sounds great. I'll give it a try.

The bed mat is on the list, but I sometimes have to move kegs for work & its a lot easier to slide them back rather than them sticking to a rubber mat. It’s already a bitch to get them up into the bed of the truck anyways. So for example currently I took my net down:
