If you live in Northern California, you know or have heard that California's OHV parks are under attack by a group called PEER (www.peer.org) and California Sport Fishing Association. Carnegie OHV park was to be closed in December and possibly until such time as various environmental impact issues are resolved. The good news is that a stay was issued preventing closure of the park until January 11th.

Why does this matter to you?

It matters to you because the same people who are trying to close Carnegie have filed requests for information with Hollister Hills OHV. This is the first step in their attempt to close the park. Depending on what information they've requested, they may choose to file a lawsuit and attempt to close the park.

    What can you do?

If you have not already familiarized yourselves with the issues surrounding these closure, please do. You can read more on South Bay Rider's web site. Here.

Write your legislators and oppose the closures. To do this, you should familiarize yourself with the reasons for the closure and form your response to those reasons. If you routinely go with your family, you may want to mention that too. Make the letter yours. But write a letter.

If you do nothing, your access to OHV parks may be severly restricted or it could disappear altogether. This may include Hollister. And if PEER has anything to do with it, you may see it happening in other states.

So if you can, read about the issue and write a letter. Preferably a lot of letters :)

    Thanks!
