I keep trying to log into IEDLS for a quote from my iPad, but can’t complete the form.
Would you have a part # and price for yours? How long have you had it?

if you can try PC. Site doesn’t work on my phone. I believe it has to be in their Online Store menu.
I may have bought mine secondhand on here with flat metal bracket a guy made. In order to fit on my manual DCSB 4x4.

to flip it on my truck and space it I measured how my old one sat height wise then copied that as close as I could with sleeves from a hardware store. I think small DOM welding tube stock. That I found in the right length already without needing cutting. At a legit speciality hardware store not Home Depot hardware section with only 1 drawer missing half the stuff and rest of it mixed up being nothing more than bolts

as the way you orient it varies depending on what truck it is. If it’s right side up, upside down, flat bar or none, etc

according to the GB thread it’s a Ford Ranger bearing PN 211590-1XS

been running it maybe a year so far

This is very interesting as the main challenge is to adjust angles.
Trying to determine how it's adjustable...

It’s just forward/rear adjustable (2 piece assembly) not height adjustable. There are 4 Allen bolts underneath with slotted mounting holes.

that’s how it looks to me. I imagine height can be adjusted with mounting. Like getting tubes, spacer, longer bolts, etc if needed.

I’ve heard (and seen) people rebuild their propshaft with the parts in a different position than stock
For more clearance and less tendency to vibrate
That could potentially allow better angles

Isn’t it easier to just replace the whole thing? How long does it take to replace the joints and carrier bearing?

Probably because they're not interested in having the tools or skills and would rather sell you a big whole part to slap on quick instead of telling you do go to a driveshaft shop to have your best interest in mind, build themselves a good reputation, and afford to do that if they run the business good enough to have a plethora of customers which they may not, like any other dealership?

The circumstances do not "warrant" it. Even a free leafs recall is a stretch. You get Icon RXT and throw the mail in the trash.
I don't think there is any circumstances that warrant going to a facility that is well known to strip every thread on an oil change.

You have a worn CB. You replace the CB. Very simple.
The original propshafts are typically maintainable and rebuildable with 5 zerk fittings.
The new replacements come with like 0 zerk fittings, to make them into a throwaway part.
Your choice on what you wanna do.

You can also find a cheap used one. Drop it off to be rebuilt. Slap it on. Save money in the process. And have what is basically also a new part, with better parts on it.
The cheapest I have found such a part is like $50.

Don't know. Had my entire propshaft rebuilt at a shop for under $300.
How long did that take me? I dunno, maybe a few minutes at the register.

Takes about 10 minutes to pull the shaft, and about 30min per u-joint, and carrier bearing. 10 minutes to put it back in. Ujoints are about $20 each.

there was one upgrade on the market (IEDLS poly), now two. (All metal)

If a part wears to the point of wrenching, that is usually the time to upgrade. Which in this case, would end up costing the same or similar to replacement.
To end up with a new part that is also better than stock.

Thanks, IEDLS definitely doesn’t make it easy to find a Tacoma driveshaft on their website. Nothing even happens when I put Toyota in the search bar. I sent them a email last night asking for options, hopefully they respond https://www.iedls.com/Online_Store

It’s because it is a bearing specc’ed for a late 90s Ford Ranger.

Here are some threads for reference:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...uy-iedls-polyurethane-carrier-bearing.421410/

this thread has some noted differences in the bearing measurements and how it sits on the driveshaft:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/iedls-and-xc-center-bearings-the-unexpurgated-story.545825/

I run a spicer bearing for a ford Ranger which is rubber instead of poly like the iedls bearing. Fairly cheap for the part.

There are pros and cons to these setups. If the OEM has done relatively fine for you then it doesn’t hurt to replace like with like. The main con to the ranger bearings is having to take the time to measure driveshaft angles and utilize spacers to set it at the right height to eliminate vibrations which in my case was an absolute pain in the ass and multiple trips down the highway but my truck is highly modified.

2nd gen carrier bearing issues resolved. Mitchmadeinc.com.
I've not seen this on the site yet, nor have I bought one, but can someone set up a group buy with Mitch, and not only get a discount but finally do away with these other cheeseball c/b's that only temporarily fix the problem.

Not so sure this is the end all be all solution. Would still need to potentially adjust driveshaft angles with spacers etc. For how expensive this likely is, I’d stick with the Ranger bearing and cut to length tube spacers :)

Is spicer considered OEM for a 2nd gen Tacoma? And I look at their website and see the “xc” they claim is better. So I see these two on driveline America (see price difference) but they will not respond to emails/ inquiries. And the spicer website only list’s dimensions instead of truck listings , so it’s kind of hard to know what one to order. I guess if your replacing it , wouldn’t it be better to spend extra and get the “xc” ?

where can you order a one piece driveshaft that is simply made to fit a Tacoma? I think a lot of places want you to measure then they make it .

Probably Tom Woods or High Angle Driveline. In all cases they will want you to measure because if you have a lift or changed axles there could be a million variables...I would just suggest finding a local driveline shop and swinging by to discuss with them.

Tom Woods stopped selling driveshafts specifically for Tacoma's. People were abusing the return policy because their vibes weren't going away. So now people who have them, have a rare item

You can buy them for custom applications still
