I've seen a couple threads with some guys mentioning packing the carrier bearing with silicone. i purchased a timken CB because it was dirty freaking cheap and even if it only lasts 10k miles it'll be worth it to me. but if i can pack it with silicone like some guys are mentioning and get more life into it I'm all for it. anyone personally done this or have pics??? also I'm wondering if i can pack it with grease and maybe put a zerk fitting in the drain hole and maybe that will increase the life.

i can see it on the outside but not packed with it as it doesn't have any lubricating ability.

    Have you considered botox?

Butt, seriously. You talking about injecting the rubber collar with silicone?

I believe that's what they're meaning when I read through the threads.

    I wouldn't use grease... [IMG]

That would make quite a mess I'm sure.

It looks like that they're filling in between the rubber boot and the metal housing. But what about filling grease inside the actual bearing. And plugging the drain hole or finding a way to put a zerk into the hole

The first time I replaced my csb. It was a Timken. Straight out of the box. It needed replacement after 2500 miles. The second time I packed the bearing (inside the metal not the rubber) to the brim with grease. So far I have 20k on it and I just noticed a small rip in the rubber.

filling the CB with silicone..... something like permatex ultra black has been on my list of things to do.

This would have nothing to do with lubing the cb, but strengthening the SUPER soft rubber than surrounds it to reduce driveline deflection.

Yeah I know but if I could keep the bearings well lubricated and strengthen the boot id imagine it would last a looong time

im prepping for the tear down of the csb and the u joints all at once. thinking about filling the boot with some sort of lube/grease possibly? what brand of csb did you guys use? and the bearings are not a sealed unit so that i could take the bearings apart and pack it with more grease before installation correct? im assuming that first and second gen tacomas all run the same because i havent seen any specification between the two

The carrier bearings are he same on all tacomas and I found a CB on Amazon for 10 bucks and I installed it 2 days ago. I'm gonna wear it in a little then pack it with silicone. You can buy way better ones but for 10 bucks I couldn't go wrong

I'd check with timken. Bearings are finicky with lubrication. I wouldn't add something like that cause a couple of guys on tacoma world do it.

You must not know how TW works, you must do what the internet says.
