My younger is going to be moving from an infant seat to a convertible.

My plan is to have her in the middle seat in the back of my double cab. Is it important to have a carseat tethered when rear facing in the back of a truck? If so, is there a way to do it in the middle seat?

Ha. Cool. Thanks. But how do you do it? I had my older kid's seat tethered to the hardware beneath the passenger seat when he was sitting on that side. But what do you attach the tether to when the seat is in the middle?

I haven't tried in the Tacoma, but in general you can use the mounting point of one of the front seats as an anchor. For some car seats the come with or you can purchase and anchor that will loop around seat posts or rails. The tether does not need to be dead center, so anything sturdy on either side of the center console should work. But yes, definitely tether the head rest of a rear facing seat.

Listen bud, REAR-FACING tether all depends on what car seat you have. Do some research. Only a few actually need it, other manufacturers specifically state NO rear tether.

The only ones that allow rear tether are Britax, Diono, Combi, and Peg Perego. All others dont

Good point, always check what your seat manufacturer recommends. If you don't have the manual look for it online. When inspections are done most car seats are found to have been installed incorrectly. As always, read the manual/directions!

If there is one manual that should be read it should be a car seat manual that's for sure.

right. the only seats I've used in the truck were a Britax and (likely) a diono.

So I guess if it is important to tether a rear facing seat in a pickup, is it safe to use a seat that doesn't utilize it?
