Hey yinz! New here and newer to the Toyota world.
Looking to upgrade the exhaust on Vic (that's my Taco's name). I would like to get a little more performance out of her, as well as a nice throaty/deep sound, but not too loud where I can't have a normal conversation whilst driving. Looking for cat back and to not break the bank.
I have no other upgrades to her, as of now.
Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.

I got a magnaflow cat back for my truck and it sounds perfect. Its a different year but I got the sound I was looking for without it being too loud.

General consensus I saw when researching was the TRD cat-back exhaust for sound. I picked it up for $390 and I'm happy with it, although there are much cheaper aftermarket solutions. I wouldn't get too hung up on the supposed performance improvement, likely less than 5hp gain under perfect circumstances.

I picked up a like new TRD back in October for $150, I'm very pleased with it. It has a nice deep tone to it & doesn't have a ricey sound at all.

Thanks for the insight. Much appreciated.
From my research and talking with others it doesn't seem like a cat back exhaust really does much improvement of the performance of my TRD Sport Taco, which is fine. So I was thinking of a cheaper alternative. Since I'd still really like to get a throaty, deeper sound I was thinking maybe just an exhaust tip would suffice? If I do an exhaust tip, no other modification to the stock exhaust system, will a tip still give me a deeper sound?

Where are you located? I have a new Dynomax cat-back setup if the for sale section for 2nd generation trucks. A tip by itself won't do much, you would need a different muffler to really get a sound change.

Thanks so much for the info. I was thinking I would probably have to do the muffler too plus a tip if I wanted something I was looking for. Which, at that point might as well just get the cat back exhaust. Thanks everyone!

I'm located in the great Black Hills of South Dakota.
