So I'm looking for some opinions from you other 4cyl owners.. I have a DCSB 2.7l and it seems some people would steer away from that combo because of power/weight ratio, but it's plenty for me(and plenty of others I've ran into here.)

My question is how much more do we need to take into consideration the weight of accessories than our V6 counterparts?

Wheels/tires/bumpers/bed caps/etc can quickly pack the pounds onto a pickup, how much does it limit what we do with our 4cyl's?

I think being mindful of weight is an absolute necessity with a small engine. Reducing one pound of rotating wheel weight is worth removing ten pounds of static weight from the chassis.

I like simple economical vehicles with small engines and so always buy the cheapest model with the least options because it's also the lightest.

Weight of your accessories will also reduce your towing capacity.

I've actually spoken with him privately about his truck because of the tire size he runs. His truck is a 5spd, mine is an auto. Also his truck is an AC not a DC, but definitely worth looking at because of some of his mods.

I agree 100%. I think 2.7L owners just have to be more considerate of the mods they do because of the weight, whereas v6 owners have a little more power to play with so it's not such a drastic change when it comes to MPG and performance.

Agreed, but I don't tow much and don't plan on throwin' tons of accessories on my truck. Mostly for me it comes down to a happy medium.
