I dropped the tranny and transfer case last night. Those top few bellhousing bolts are a bear!

New clutch and rear main seal as well as some resealing on the tranny/transfer at a minimum, dual cases if I can get my wife's approval :fingerscrossed:

Damn that thing must’ve been heavy as eff with the transfer case stall attached!

Which clutch did you go with?

I have a pretty sweet tranny jack. Only down side is it won't come out from under the truck while still on the jack. Took about 2-1/2 hours to pull. Would have been quicker but I struggled for a while until I realized I missed a bolt up top.

I didn't buy a clutch yet. Gotta wait until next month's budget kicks in. The seats did me in for January....

I was still thinking of going with your recommendation of the 5vz pressure plate.

That set up definitely worked well for me and that was with the turbo setup as well. Held great and pedal felt just like a stock clutch. And it was significantly less than buying a performance clutch.
It’s basically what marlin crawler sells as the upgraded 3rz kit but you’re just piecing it together yourself.

I pulled the tranny apart last night. I wanted to see the condition of everything at 280k miles.

I'm pretty sure it's been rebuilt at some point because everything looks great!

Syncros look perfect, all bearings I can check feel fine.

Planning to clean up the housing and reseal everything - it was a little leaky.

    Nice!

If it's that easy to take the trans apart, I might do it to powdercoat the case ha

Nothing like pressure washing in 30 degree weather!

Got the transmission housings cleaned up today. They are going to turn out better than I thought once I finish cleaning them up!

Engine cleaner followed by simple green, followed by an aluminum wheel cleaner.

Next up, brake cleaner to the trouble spots and some scrubbing.

Thanks, yeah not bad for a wheeling rig/beater.

I'm having fun. I like tinkering in the garage in the winter. It keeps me from going crazy until spring arrives.

    Tasteful modifications :)
Your the only other person I’ve seen that has the paint a quarter the way up the hood like I do. I blacked out my front grille and I think it looks very good now. Did the previous owner give you any info about the hood? I’m not sure if it’s powercoated, bedlinered, or what.

Mine is bedliner. It's only still on there because I haven't painted it yet!

I think the PO did it to cover rock chips.

I found this for $10 today at the junkyard in an early Tacoma.

Anyone recognize this? It doesn't look like the other consoles I've seen - mainly the pockets.

Just found this on Google images - same console.

I think the first pocket looks perfect for a second tcase shifter ;-)

Never seen it before. Toyota made some great decisions over the years, square cup holders definitely not one of them

Yeah, they are kind of horrid! The bottom one does make a nice shifter opening, and the top one I can probably 3d print something to fit a round cup.

Here are the doodads I found in my junkyard exploring:

    Spare rear axle shaft
Some hood struts I want to try to adapt to the rear door of our GX470

Early 90s Chevy truck underhood trouble light - magnetic base and about a 10' wire

Honda Homelink module with amber LED courtesy light -

Sounds good! I've done it before - never to a Taco, but it can't be too much different.

I'm trying to figure out what to do for a mount/skid. I'd love to raise it a few inches if I could pull it off.
