Yeah, that is pretty much how I got my antenna cable into the cab as well. I however, put a hole in the center of that rubber cap that was just a little smaller than the cable so that it would still be water tight. My antenna cable had to be soldered on the other end yet when I did this.

This is interesting news to me. I have went thru 2 antennas so far trying to get my swr to below 1.0.
The first was a 3 ft firestick. I properly ran the positive and neg wires from the cb directly to my battery. Had the proper 16-18 ft of coax and never looped it under the carpet but rather ran it in a series. Thru the cab and into the bed. Mounted my antenna and ran an extra wire off it to the frame.(i'm 1st gen. So it was mounted on metal as well).
Calibrated my swr meter and ran a test. I could not get my meter to come down at all. It was pegged all the way to the right. Started cutting the firestick at quarter inch increments and it never changes.
Went to a truck stop and bought a" francis" self tuning antenna that several truckers there had on there rigs and even had 2 truckers come try and tune my cb and the needle was still pegged at the calibration line in swr mode.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. There are no cb shops in my area and I am leaving for indiana on friday and need to get this taken care of.
Can anyone please tell me why I can't get my standing wave to drop any?

If you have a toolbox you can go to like a trucker stop/gas station and pick up a bolt mount. but that involves modding your toolbox...so its all just what you wanna do.

Cleanest installation(no drilling for bracket install necessary) and looks really good from the outside in my opinion too....

    Look at build!
It's pretty simple just pull it all apart as if you were takin your radio out and you should have the whole black surround with air vents in your hand thenn just trip the back of the ash tray apot till the cb fits flush and you will have to take out the ashtray bracket that is screwed in with 2 phillips screw, check out my build for pics, it sits nice and flush with the front of the black bezel

I just installed one the newest cb/ham radios on the market. It's the Magnum 257hp.GIjoes cb shop has them $195 plus$30 tune up. I used there pedistal mount with 4" extension. Mounted on pass side of the hump in front of the truck . My antenna is the Wilson 5000. Comes in Through the roof mount or magnet. this is the best mag mount antenna you can get for cb. It has a 5ft steel whip though. But it can be unscrewed by hand and has a weather cap. I been fooling with CB's since 1994 and Wilsonakes the best mag mount and fiberglass antennas. If you go with big aluminum antenna the Predator 10k is the champ. I went back to Wilson 5000's because the new Tacomas have a plastic bed and don't ground well even when running a ground to the frame. They ground well on the back bumper, the roof and the front hood mounts. Runnig the coax through the body plugs I fine. Just silicone it up. Lots of folks I know with Wilson 5000 run coax thru the 3rd point brake light since the antennas on the roof. I'm about to drop the headliner and drill 3/4" hole just in front of the dome light and put the thru roof mount for Wilson5000. It's the best position for a cb antenna on a vehicle. I'm new to this forum and I'm still learninghow to use it. I'll try to get some pics. I just usemy I-phone

If run your coax under truck thru a plug, make sure to use zip ties to secure it to the frame or body so nothing can hook it and yank every thing apart. Especially if you go off road. It also would a good idea to protect the coax from abraision on the trucks frame by covering the coax where it touches the truck with some good wire loom or even some unused rubber 3/8" fueline. Just cut a slit length ways just like wire loom is cut and slip around the coax. What ever antenna you decide on, make sure is tuned to your radio. Get a local shop to do it $10-$20. Or buy a swr meter $20 and do it yourself. Here's how. Set the cb on channel 20 and zero or calibrate the swr meter by pressing the microphone button and turning the ajustment knob so it's on the set mark. Now flip the swr switch to reference or fwd (I can't remeber but it's easy to figure out)Once calibrated check the swr reading on channel 1 and channel 40 by keying the microphone on each channel. If it's higher on ch 1 make the antenna alittle longer. If higher on ch 40 make it shorter. Once both channels or equal, check the swr reading on channel 20. Should be 1.5 or less.Extremely important if you run an amplifier. A perfect antenna match is 1.1. I don't talk on any channel that my swr is over 1.5. It can stress the radios transistors and eventually fry it. A normal tune may show 1.5 on channels 1 and 40 and 1.2 on channel 20. Think of it like a smile. Ch 1 and 40 or on the ends and 20 is end the middle. Since your tuning on ch20 the further you get away from it the highr the swr will get. Since 20 is in the middle Of the frequencies you get your lowest swr there by tuning ch 1 & 40 the same. Oh yeah, I always run my power cables to the battery instead of the fuse box. Less chance of lots of ignition noise. Just make sure you turn off the radio when you're done sone you won't drain your battery.

On the pedistal mount with a 4" extension. The bottom is a flat round base about 2.5" in diameter. On top of that is a 6" shaft. On top of that is radio bracket the swivels anyway you want. I have the base mounted at the bottom of the front passenger side of the hump. If I change radios I can mount it in the same location. Very solid. Similar RAM mounts sell for $35 to $50. There were no wires under the carpet where I mounted it, But check before you drill.
