did you remove the back of the console to fit that 880 in there? I just did a test fit of mine in that location but it is sticking out further than yours and I cant go back any further without hitting anything

Yes the back was cut out. Be very careful though as the airbag computer is behind there!

Yes. And there's enough choices to make your head spin. I just picked up a 2' Firestik (which I've found people either love them or think they're junk) which I'm going to mount on the driver's side with a hood hinge bracket mount. I wanted low profile, not something that stuck up way up over the cab. But my range will suffer because of that.

I'm about to find out. Mine just showed up today, and we just installed one in a friend of mine's Taco. That being said, neither of us need to talk to the space station. Mainly just trail chatter and something to kill the boredom on road trips.

It's done just fine for me. Only issue I've had is with my Firestik 3' Antenna. I have to adjust the tip to tune it every single time I use it.

The 'commonly' used frequency is 146.460. But it's all about how you're with and what channel the group decides on, whether you're doing Simplex or Duplex with a regional repeater.

Nice you'll have to tell me how it is. I was thinking something low profile too. I guess I have to do more research

Ok thanks. I'm still researching. I sort of liked it because everything is on the handheld. I was thinking if I do the 75s I could mount it behind the dash and have the mic chord attach to the dash button where the QI charger button is. (the sr doesn't have that button so its blank). so it would be low profile. what are you running?

Im currently in search for a unit as well trying to do as much research as possible before i pull the trigger on something. I know stryker makes a unit think its a sr-89mc??? I could be wrong. Its a ham radio frequency but a cb shop can easily convert it to a cb and all the controls are on this unit as well. I was really going yo go this route but the local cb shop i called yesterday doesnt deal with strykers and he said they are a pain to service. Im going to try to find another cb shop to call around my area tomorrow maybe get lucky with one that sells strykers so i can get more info on them.
The local guy i talked to yesterday recommend me a mirage unit.

Definitely will. The rest of my stuff should be here tomorrow. Planning to install this weekend, but my SWR meter won't be here until Monday so I won't be able to tune until then. Like I said though, I'm not really expecting super great things.

Cobra 75 handheld is fine for trail use. Too be honest I don't get much range out of it with my 108" military antenna. Didnt get much range out of it with a 4ft tuned firestik either. So far idk whether it's the radio or my antennas but given it's been same result each time I hazard a guess and say it's the radio. I also bought it used off eBay so who knows what abuse it had before I owned it.

I went with a midland cb radio, it was delivered today. I wanted a no drill install (truck too new to me for me to want to drill it...lol) and I like the fact that I can take it in and out of the truck with ease for spotting on the trails.

I stumbled across a Youtube video that showed that you can slightly bump up the power by adjusting a pot inside the unit, although it was definitely recommended against doing it. Which also lead to another video that had a guy with way fancier equipment than I've ever seen that showed a guy getting 8-18 watts out of it. And as much as I hate to leave things stock, I'll probably never touch any of the stuff inside that thing.

Motors I can play with and know how to get power out of. Radios, not so much.

I would wager the Cobra 75 is used by more people here than any other CB.

From the factory CBs all are shit, 4W is nothing.

For trail use 1-2 miles, the 75 is just fine. If you want to run an amp and talk to Indochina then there's probably better choices.

Damn I just realized if I run the 75s behind the dash I would have to take the dash apart every now and again to adjust/ tune the swr. There goes my clean look i was going for. Hmm may have to look to something mounted in center console.
