Why did you delete the Cobra 75?
I did the same and installed a Uniden 520.
The mic on the 75 was too cumbersome and heavy for me.
Didn't "feel" good in my hands.

Basically the same reason. I like the idea of the Cobra 75, just not the execution of it. It was a little too big for my liking, and I never really got comfortable with the controls. I do like the scan feature and the weather would have been useful if I didn't also have that on my Ham.

I went with a cobra rs720 cb antenna mount on my truck since I didnt want to drill in my truck at all. If anyone is looking for a good no drill option then I would recommend it.

So i managed to get my President McKinley installed in the dash yesterday. I purchased a Relentless Fab bed rail mount to mount a firestik antenna in the back corner of the bed. Unfortunately, I ordered the powdercoated mount. If the bed rails are plastic, I'm going to need to run a ground wire of some type from the mount to the chassis. Suggestions on type and chassis location? And what parts of the mount do I need to grind the powdercoating off?
Also, I was planning on wiring the CB directly to the battery, but all my previous car electrical experience has been with audio equipment. I've always grounded those devices to the closest chassis point. Should I run the CB ground all the way back to the battery? Or ground to the chassis instead?

I'd run the ground with the antenna wire. Find the closest ground and there u go. Where the stud goes through the mount I would get that to bare metal. Then get a ground screw and get that metal to bare metal. The u should be good. Now I would run the power to the battery and the ground for the radio close to the radio. If not, it won't hurt to go to battery or where the ground wires are grounded from the truck.

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
thanks for the info. I just ordered the nmo mount and adapter for my forestik as my mounting locations are very limited. how is this grounded? and any reason i shouldnt use a spring with firestik? thanks

I heard that u should use a spring. As the firestik is very rigid.

If you have a 4ft or higher antenna, make sure to get the Firestik Heavy Duty Spring SS-3H. The "Medium Duty" is too much on the weak side, even for a 4ft!!! Plus, it doesn't have to be a Firestik spring, of course, but just make sure it is also stainless steel!!!

Just ordered the parts for my CB set up! I'm going to try and get away with installing it before the wife and I go on our road trip to Canada. Should be here Wednesday and we leave Saturday.

The only thing I am not confident about is the wiring from the radio to the battery as I have never done anything like that before. Though it doesn't sound too difficult. I plan on routing the coax from the mount, behind the brake light, under the truck along the frame and then up through that rubber grommet on the passenger side and then under the door sill, up and around the passenger foot well to the radio that I will be mounting on the passenger side of the center console. I am going to use a heavy duty velcro mount (I hope) so that I can take it out if need be. I don't like the idea of drilling holes into my truck just yet.

Those that have the antenna mounted just behind the cab any issues with getting good SWR?
