Pull the AC condensation drain in foot area of passenger side, run your cable, then re-insert the drain hose back into its hole.

in my 2008 there is a rubber plug in the floor underneath the passenger seat. It is close to the frame rail. You will have to remove the seat and lift the carpet up to get to it. I put the plug out, made a small hole in the middle of it, and made a slit from the center to the outside edge of the plug. Ran my wire through. Reinstalled the plug, and siliconed around the wire and plug. It’s been about 4 years and no leaks.

Installed a uniden cmx760 with a 4ft firestik today but I can’t seem to tune it. I’m getting the same readings on channels 1,20 and 40 after setting the set on fw and switching to ref on the swr meter. Doesn’t matter how much I screw out or in the forestik top piece. Any ideas? I ground off the powder coat on the antenna bracket.

Try managing your excess cable. If coiled, try making it vertical and not horizontal in its positioning.

Perfect, for tuning I’ve been playing with the firestik and right now I have channel 1 not moving from 1 on the meter, 20 the same and 40 at 1.1. Is this good? I feel like it should move a bit for channels 1 & 20.

When tuned right, 1 and 40 are close, withe 20 being a little higher. Anything under 1.5 is good. I would leave yours alone.

I was out on my motorcycle, which has a CB i've never used, and turned it to channel 19, and after a couple of hours on the interstate, only heard one guy talking. It's like truckers are phasing out CB's almost.

Almost, but when there's a traffic jam, they tell each other how to get around it if possible. Helped me a few times.

They stay on the quiet side like Killowatt said. Sometimes just listening to the chatter can save you time and gas as I learned on a recent trip driving North on I-95. Overheard two truckers talking about a detour around a traffic jam; I took the detour and avoided about an hours worth delay.

Okay I need some advice on which antenna and coax cable to buy. I about to purchase a uniden 980 with single side band and I like the location of mounting the antenna off of ditch/pod light brackets. So I plan on mounting it there with rago fabrications extension. Unless the Cali raised off road mount off the corner of the bed has Benefits for range and clarity then I would consider. But I don’t want to waste time chasing down stupid little problems and asking questions on here just cuz I can tune my brand new radio and then can’t hear or talk to anyone. So which antenna should I get for this radio (and mounting location) and does the coax matter?? Thanks

Get the lug coax, it's the flattest and has better reviews than the FireRing: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000X39TCY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I really like my Firefly antenna, smaller diameter than normal FireStiks: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B005AUJXLM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Can't help on meter, I have a President McKinley with a built in meter and it's great. If you haven't pulled the trigger on the 980 SSB, you should look into the McKinley. Same features, smaller package.

I would love to see how you mount that SSB in the truck . I want one but can’t figure out where to put that brick without ripping the factory radio out. Which I’m not high on that idea.

I was going to but the Tpam or tract mount and mount it on there. Yes, the whole thing would pretty much be sitting on the dash.
