Hey, just picked up one of these radios and wanted to see if you'd be able to give some more information on how you mounted that plate with the connector in it. Don't want to have to go under the seat each time I plug my cb in..

I took out the console piece that I mounted it in. Took the metal piece that has 3 holes in it. Placed it where I wanted it and traced the holes with a center punch/scribe just to scratch the plastic where they go. Drilled one screw hole. Put in that screw. Drill the other screw hole. Then drill out the large center hole and dremel it till it fit flush (hole has to be larger for the rubber grommet). Sounds complicated but very easy when your doing it

Also where I mounted it there were plastic ridges on the back. I just cut those off with side cutters then dremeled them smooth

So you just have that secured in the hole with a rubber grommet? It doesn't fall out or anything?

There are two small bolts that hold the metal plate in place. The wire that goes through the rubber grommet to plug in the CB is a very tight fit and is larger on the plug in end so it can't fall through

Alright sounds good! Thanks for the info, and if you could snap a few up close pictures of that I would appreciate it. Might get this done tomorrow. Will post pictures if I do.

Did you do an install thread? I want to mount mine in the same location.

    None(Yet)

Where exactly is the junction box? I'm accessing the cig lighter too but had to pull the dash apart as the place I put the junction box was hitting something and I couldn't close the dash all the way.

The mic cable where it's mounted is nice but those are short so I'm wondering where to put the junction box.

The junction box sits right in front of the cup holders. Not mounted to anything it fits in there pretty snug. If you mount the mic hook up in the same place I did that's really the only place for it to go.

Please note the OP's mount has no giant ground wire it is not centered over a ground plane and works in his opinion quite well. So much for the myth. Clean install OP nice job.

You can tune an antenna to low SWR with out a ground plane. It needs a ground but that's it. A ground plane helps as far as TX but the biggest factor in a mobile setup is ground losses as in earth ground not a ground plane. That is one reason height makes a difference. I tune multi band verticals and beams on wooden saw houses before they go on the tower, the only ground is the coax back to the meter. When you tune a CB antenna tune it to the center frequency or CH 20 if you don't the ends CH 1 and CH 40 will be off If your meter says other wise it is not a very accurate meter. It's probably safe to say most people tune it on CH 19 but if it is tuned on CH 1 I guaranty CH 40 will be higher and so will CH 19 to some extent. By the way all though a 1.1:1 match is good a 2:1 match will have little noticeable effect and will not have any effect on the radios finals.

    It's not for his antenna.

It shows how new I am to CBs. I just got a Midland 75-822 and has a similiar plug to hook up an external antenna. At least I'm pretty sure it's what it is.

    Hi
I like your setup , did you have to take out the lower dash to tap the 12v accessory outlet? I want to do a setup like yours but I was thinking if I draw power from the battery i wouldn't have to dissassemble the lower dash parts. Am I correct in thinking that?
